To get rid of those horrible GPU Clouds CCP should instead use Unreal or CryTek's engine, or perhaps even the Gamebryo engine. Then we can all enjoy HD graphics for very little wear.

Really? EVE's graphics are why you want a new engine?

You're perfectly fine with the "spheres [with spaceship textures] + spreadsheets on a space background" game engine we have now?

It's the graphics that you want a new engine for?

Cool. Noted.

well I also want a new game engine, so +1

Please CCP give us back the commonly proposed idea thread.

Why would CCP change the engine and make themself dependent of an engine which is worse than what they have?
Its a lot of work and gives them nothing.

Hahaha.... Gamebryo for eve.. Oh thats just hilarious.
Let's just say that trying to run eve on gamebryo with the number of systems currently in the game and the number of pilots typically seen in an average system(not including Jita) would be a very horrible idea. I'm pretty sure most devs would kill themselves before even trying this.

Additionally every single other engine you listed is a functional impossibility for the scale of eve. As in just flat out impossible. By the time you got any of those engines to run eve in the current configuration you would have utterly rewritten them. Those engines are designed for a much more limited scope of game. On a raw tech level eves GFX system is actually pretty darn impressive. It's also pretty darn VAST. Most of the issues you seem to have are with lower res textures and not the actual nuts and bolts of the GFX system. That said if eve did have high res textures it would nearly double its install size(art devs correct if wrong. Going off memory here).

Eve needs new content not rainbows and unicorns.

Graphics are the least of our problems right now.

Cool graphics brought me to the game and kept me here for the first couple of months until I got addicted and figured out how to budget my Eve-fix on a 4x/year basis.

Does Eve NEED new graphics....? Probably not. Could it help to bring new players in, keep them in and encourage growth and a new generation of players? Possibly.

Not to say more players would fix eve, but it would give more/new content to keep us 10-year-olds satisfied until things get better. Also, things aren't all that bad, just changing.

+1 for Hi-Res textures
-1 for new graphics engine
+1 for getting new players to visit and stay

Getting rid of those crappy dust and gas clouds would be good enough for me. Hi-res eye-candy would be tasty icing on the already tasty cake, but I'd rather that the game run smoothly than make it look more real than real, and those hyper-luminous pockets of absolute fps-murdering particle poopyness can honestly go straight to hell and die. And, before it gets suggested, turning off half of Eve's other perfectly fine effects just to disable those disgusting abominations isn't really an answer.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
