I am a returning player who needs to get a new desktop to play the game. Currently playing on an old laptop that works for missions and the the boring stuff but in no way would work for any sort of pvp.

I know next to nothing about computers in terms of what all the numbers and cards and acronyms mean. I have been looking online on different websites and browsing but to be honest i have no idea what i'm scanning over or looking for.

I need a PC that will play eve and can keep up with pvp and larger fleet fights and hopefully run at least 2 clients with other background programs running. I would also like a PC that can be upgraded in the future if need be. Has to be a desktop.

As of now im just overwhelmed at all the brands and not knowing anything about what is a reliable brand or anything so any help will be greatly appreciated. Also i have no skills at building my own so a prepackaged eve machine would be best. Thanks for any help.

Have you actually tried to PVP with it?

Because it's been my experience that if you can run missions, you can PVP just fine. It's not the computer you are using so much as how you set it up.

Not sure of your budget but NewEgg.com has a nice ABS Dreadnought for a little over $500.00 US. More than adequate.

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friends nose. Unless you podded them...and collected their corpse.

to play with minimal lag i had to turn off or set to low ALL the graphics settings and it still gets a big laggy unless i zoom all the way out. i did die in a burner mission because after i warped in and clicked the keep at range button and hit my mwd apparently it didn't recognize me clicking them or something or just didn't register so i got popped pretty fast. i assume pvp would be iffy it deals with more than clicking an armor repper.

Do you have a friend or family member with a young child?

If you do, ask if said child has one of those toys where you put the different shaped blocks into the correct holes.

If you can do that, you can build a basic PC.

PS: If the CPU/ heatsink has no thermal paste pre-applied, think of it like spreading butter on toast.

i5 4th gen or 5th gen CPU amd if you want less performance but a tad cheaper.

8gb ram for start

1TB HDD 7200rpm no less

128GB SSD or 256GB if funds allow

Nvidia 860GTX or 760GTX or r9 380 or r9 280 if AMD.

I can fleet fine on medium to high settings, turning them down helps a lot though. Except in missions. Mission cloud detail refuses to turn down with the settings, and it's the biggest performance hog in all of EVE. I can't run missions unless I look away from the activity and use only the overview.

I would highly recommend not to build it yourself if the upkeep of the PC is not a hobby for you. It used to be the only way to get decent framerates, but the prebuilt market has caught up a lot.

I cannot overstate how nice it is to have all drivers autoupdate and tested by a QA department for your machine before it ships. When you have a problem a quick facebook chat with the company will resolve most of it quickly.

Pure gaming systems that I know personally to be decent are the Alienware X51 (600-700$) or a Digital Storms Vanquish 3 (700$).

These machines are way overkill for eve already and are mosters.

To get back under the 500$ budget you could just get the last generation used as well and buy a 3 year warranty from the producer on top.

If you can build something from Ikea, you can install components into a PC. It's almost certainly easier that reinstalling all your software on a new computer.

From what you describe
1) what operating system are you running?
2) what kind of computer do you have?
3) how much memory (RAM) do you have?
4) what graphics card do you have in the computer?

Just about anything can play Eve. I often use a $200 laptop with no issues, though I don't think it would be good for running more than one client.

Both of those are way over priced for what little you get (crap).

You're absolutely silly if you think that dell or any cheap OEM builder pretests all driver updates for their machines. Dell doesn't even do that for their corporate clients that lease or buy +2000 machines of the same type. My laptop from Dell was 80 something updates behind when it arrived.

If you have a problem a quick google search will answer your question. Since I build my machines with high quality components (unlike most prebuilt companies) my clients don't have problems.

Anyway google can solve most of your problems in life in 10 minutes.

For 100 bucks more you could build your own machine based off the g3258 with 8 GB of ddr3 1600 with a z97 mobo capable of supporting the latest top end lga 1150 i7 CPUs. A GTX750 TI 2GB card, 600 watt PSU (A VERY good one) a 1 TB hard drive a DVD/CD burner and a rosewill challenger case. Windows 10 is not included though. Windows 10 is basically free but it also contains built in methods of spying on your activities for DAT AD REVENUESS!!. I'm personally sticking with 7 pro 64bit.

That machine would give you i7 level of performance in eve (single core game basically). The G3258 will stomp that fx4300 on every front even multithreaded stuff. I have a FX6300 at 4.8 GHZ and the OCed g3258 system I built along those lines actually surpassed my machine in most benchmarks and the g3258 was using stock cooling. The downside is that it's a dual core so a couple games like the latest dragonage will refuse to run. You can always upgrade the CPU later op spend more money now if that's an issue.

The next upgrade item for such a system would definitely be a SSD.

The real big problem with future proofing is Intel released the information on the new sockets a few months ago and DDR4 is going to be pushed as part of that.

Well this depends on the CPU design but it's either like making a small pea shaped drop or a rice grain sized thing of paste.

So it's not even as hard as spreading butter on toast.

The real issue is making sure that the CPU and the heatsink contact areas are nice and clean (+91% alcohol does that well) and that you don't lift the heatsink after it lands on the CPU.
