I have just found that when in a chat channel and especially the 'Rookie' channel, it is hard to help someone with a question when there are multiple conversations going at once. My suggestion is inserting a 'Respond' function.

Basically when someone asks a question, you can right click their name, select 'Respond' from the contextual menu and it would automatically insert their name followed by a colon into the typing window. Then you can proceed to type an answer and submit it to the channel. This way it is easier to distinguish general chat form actual answers or at least know who's talking to who.
