Regular Disconnects - Now FIXED, issue was Virgin Media Superhub 2

I'm having a fairly regular issue with "Socket Closed" as soon as I destroy the last ship in Guristas Forsaken Hubs.

Its happened about 20 times now in the last week or so and in that time I've only had one disconnect that didn't coincide with the last rat exploding.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that this is the result of random issues between me and the server or due to traffic shaping, as if it were surely it wouldn't always happen just as the last rat goes down.

I've filed a support ticket but just got a generic, "socket closed issues aren't things we can fix" email.

Has anyone else had this type of issue? Or any ideas?

I'm in the UK with Virgin Media and this issue happened on windows 7 and still happens on a clean install of windows 10.

I've tried looking at ping plotter, but all I get is "Destination Address Unreachable". Ping Plotter will ping google, twitter, etc just fine and I can login to the game no problem.

I've also tried port 3274. Same issue.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Since you're on VM I'll assume it's something like this; http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Gaming/Intermittent-connection-with-Gaming/td-p/2887404

Disconnects from MMOs/Online games on VM Superhubs. In my personal experience it tends to happen on a major change like warping or jumping a gate. On FF14, it happens when coming out a cutscene.
Putting your Superhub into modem mode will resolve the issue. Obviously this stops you using wifi.

Otherwise, you either need to buy a router (you can get them as low as £30 on amazon), or wait for VM to fix it. This could honestly be weeks/months.

By the way, the reason pingplotter can't reach it is because the end EVE server doesn't actually allow pings anymore (apparently) but the route trace should be accurate. I have the same thing.

Virgin bloody media strikes again. Why they think they are capable of writing custom firmware is beyond me.

Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

The badly named "Superhub 2" is now in modem mode with my trusty 8 year old router brought out of retirement and all is well.

Not a single disconnect all night.

was getting constant socket closures . especially after a structure blew . changed my outragously named super hub 2 to modem mode and using my trusty old ethernet cable into my machine . will report in a couple of days if its solved

I am so glad this isn't just happening with me!
With VM as well and I am getting the socket closed error perhaps 10 times in a 2 hour sitting.
Driving me insane.

Unrelated - I've noticed I'm paying for 100Mbps but getting 5mbps some nights. It is really bad. I rebooted the router and it went to a whole 8mbps for all of an hour. Not sure if anyone else has had this to.
