Correct - but you need to secure them first, before you start worrying about the actual extract process.

there's quite a large amount of oil on Canada, all stored up in bitumen sands and shale. The only issue was the lower quality and the amount of effort to extract them, compared to the oil wells on the near and middle east.

In fact, I think that many bitumen sand deposits around the world are in places considered "safe" in comparision to the OPEC.

From my part of the World and a very uneducated opinion:

Panama Economy keeps booming up as the rest of the world collapses and more Transnationals open up HQ's here.

Venezuela Hugo Chavez finally dies AFTER winning the 2012 Election and leaving the country in the brink of Civil War, many people die, CIA infiltrated agents set up a proxy government, begins the slow and painful road of country rebuilding as foreign interests leach up what's left of our oil.

Chile is hit with another huge Earthquake.

Argentina hovers closer to total chaos as their banking system takes a new plunge down.

Brasil, wonderful Brasil ...

Peru stabilizes and keeps growing up.

Mexico gets on the spotlight as the narcoarmy gains enough influence there to be able to assassinate either the president or powerful members of the government. Tourism keeps going downhill there.

Dominican Republic economy grows too, as the Caribbean is seeing a huge influx of wealth and development for the past 5 years, trend continues unabated.

Colombia tensions rise as Chavez death/new rise to power/venezuelan chaos threatens to bring the Guerrilla BACK there, President Santos retaliates, bloody year for Colombia.

In the World?

Don't care. Obama in the US has made Panama what it is now, and even with a new president, the expats here and the rich guys here will remain here. Europe the same. Though I suspect France will consolidate itself as the new powerblock within the EU (all that Lybian oil ), the Middle East will see a couple more countries topple down and a new boogeyman will emerge , perhaps Venezuela. The same cycle over and over again just diff names.

People cringing for liberties and illusions of choice will keep crying out loud about a system where they have NO real choice and will be swept in the oblivion of the global economy and economic interests, their lives relegated to basic impulses and breeding.

In short business as usual, with Latinamerica growing as an added bonus setting the stage for future wars.
