Graph is here. Don't eat it, it is not made of candy.

This is a chart showing the damage projection relationship between having a range bonus and having a damage bonus as your ship skill bonus. I used a Brutix and a Ferox both fitted with 250mm Railguns II. Note that with max skills and if we consider a 10% per level optimal range bonus to be equivalent to a 5% per level damage bonus, the Ferox has 8.75 effective turrets while the Brutix has 9, making them a fairly close match. At low ship skill levels they are more disparate because the Brutix has one fewer weapon and a 10% per level damage bonus instead of 5%.

Key:
Light Blue = Brutix using Tech 1 ammo
Light Green = Brutix using Navy ammo
Dark Blue = Brutix using Tech 2 ammo

Light Red = Ferox using Tech 1 ammo
Light Orange = Ferox using Navy ammo
Dark Red = Ferox using Tech 2 ammo

Up = DPS
Left = Optimal Range

For all cases, ship has a full rack of T2 250mm Railguns, max skills, no implants, no boosters, no fleet bonuses, no weapon upgrades. Every case has exactly 15km falloff, but only the optimal range is recorded on the graph.

The Brutix clearly dominates the close range category, able to achieve much higher DPS values than the Ferox; however the Ferox reaches much greater ranges and clearly dominates the sniper category. Of greater importance is how they stack within the overlapping portion.

The Brutix using Uranium ammo has the same range as the Ferox using Antimatter, but the Brutix has higher DPS.
The Ferox using Plutonium ammo gets between both the range and DPS of the Brutix using either Thorium or Lead.
The Ferox using Uranium, Thorium, or Lead gets superior projection compared to the Brutix using Iridium, Tungsten, or Iron.
The Brutix gets much better DPS with Spike than the Ferox gets with Iridium at the same range, but Spike ammo reduces tracking considerably.

It's useful info, and here it is available right at people's fingertips in case they were curious or wondering.

Yes, interesting stuff!

And Estella is dumb.

Conclusion: Both have their strengths and weaknesses, as we would expect them to

Well done.

Well done.

I feel that the Ferox beats the Brutix at the majority of their range overlap, but this is evened out by the Brutix having a larger drone bay. So the Caldari optimal range bonus is a good match for Gallente damage bonus when Gallente have bigger drone bays. But it also means that the poor underpowered Moa was nerfed when its range bonus was swapped out for damage.

I still wish the Moa had a tracking bonus to make up for the fact you cannot go web crazy on it without gimping the shield tank.

Interesting numbers, cheers for doing the work.
