U.S. Delays Giving Up Oversight of Internet Administrator Icann -WSJ

"Mr. Strickling wrote that the government plans to extend its contract with Icann for one year to Sept. 30 of 2016, with options to extend it another three years. Mr. Strickling said Commerce informed Congress of the plan on Friday."

Not even in 1+3 years. Don't fix something that is not broken.
Just a bad idea. However, I think everyone can agree it needs to be managed better, not used as a tool for whatever purposes other than for the free flow of trade and commerce as it should be used for. The same government has patrolled the worlds oceans to keep them safe for trade and commerce, and so too in this respect ICANN should be properly managed, and transparently so. But however this lands, the current administration will be out and a new one in, so we'll see what happens. imo the delay is a very good thing right now. Even if it does get transferred eventually, it shouldn't be to some "unspecified group of international stakeholders" as it's set for now.
