So I had this idea, maybe its been brought up before.

Why not incorporate the alliance tournament style fighting/battles to in game? Like all rules would apply concerning point system for ships and so on. So the idea would be to get 10 corpmates/alliance friends, buy the ships off the market, fit them etc and then click an "enter the arean" button or whatever. Meanwhile, others are doing the same and the game matches you up randomly for instant pvp? Could be a leaderboard, loot could apply and whatever other ideas people come up with.

Would this go against everything eve stands for?

It would take care of the instant pvp problems.

Thoughts?

ps, this would just be additional to current game play. A feature if you will.

Yes it has been thought of before, alot, a whole lot.

Yes it is bad it would all but ruin open PVP

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Your going out to find pvp is part of the game, plus theres the fact that in eve pvp odds are never even.

Use the force without consent and the court wont acquit you even if you are a card carryin', robe wearin' Jedi.

Hate to go all CAOD but....look at OP's crew. He knows this well, or should. His crew knows how to stack a deck. Hate to dredge up old crap but....still not thrilled they were even in the running for king of low sec to be able toto take the crown . The purist in me wanted this to be between only authentic low sec crews, no obviously 0.0 based crews allowed. It was low sec's event...should have been low sec only.

Which leads to the rant this can be done in game now. If you could get crews in eve to not be asshats. Declare system, declare rules, declare dae and times.....organize the stuff. And on game day all could go really well.

If.....some asshat crew((s) didn't decide to jack it all up and crap all over the event. Its not ccp's place to step in like a parent between fighting siblings here. We could have this is if for just one day, for only a few hours of that day even, if we could get some eve crews and players to grow the hell up for just a little while.

OP, the AT tournament is actually an intensive event for CCP. As seen last year when the setup was having some hiccups and extra people, above those already on site for the event, had to be called in. I recall a Test match. I recall Test survivors stuck in the arena I recall the comment from CCP Gargant this is the most work needed to get Test removed from space. Software had them stuck,,,took a bit of effort to resolve that.

Take away is the software for this is not perfect. Even better, its creator left CCP. One of the things I am will be looking for this year in fact....how well did the changeover go for this. Did old boy comment his code really good? Did he have it easy enough to work with to run with him gone. You see for that Test match.....he was off that weekend. They had to call him up on the batphone to to get his assistance. We will find out soon how this goes lol. .

If you do not want arena style then don't go there, leave it to those who do.
Even if it did destroy PvP in the game do you know who would be to blame?

Yea that's right your fellow PvP players and if that happened then you would learn something about the mindset of the other PvP players and maybe that is what scares you the most.

A long as participation in these "arena'" events is optional and they do not replace or remove any of the existing forms of PvP in the game I do not see any negative sides to the idea.

If someone can go where I cannot follow and interfere then its not sandbox and its not eve.

You can do this on the SiSi server.

Not buying this lame argument because it is just another I can have it but you cannot thing.

Since I cannot use them being that I am not in the proper corp / alliance jump bridges eliminate my ability to "mess" with many of the players in this sandbox so they need to be removed from the game.

Sov space can be and often is a wall players can hide behind that makes it impossible for me to follow and "mess" with them so sov space needs to be removed.

As a non jump capable pilot someone having a jump capable character and ship eliminates my ability to "mess" with them so jump drives need to be removed from the game.

A cap ship makes you virtually invulnerable to me as a solo pilot in anything but another cap ship, that eliminates my ability to follow and "mess" with you so cap ships need to be removed.

No matter what you have or point to I can prove to you that it minimize or eliminates someones ability to follow and mess with another player in this sandbox. To say that it is OK to do this at one level of the game but not at all levels of the game is well to be polite just pure selfishness.

PvP is in a bad place in this game right now and the endless string of bad ideas posted on how to change, improve, or even force others into it are an example of just how bad. In that light these arena's may be an excellent way of introducing fence sitting players to go off into the PvP area of the game simply because it would give them a place to go and try it, or practice before they wander off and get jumped on by a gang.

Sov space can be messed with. Have you not seen the torrential flooding of null tears from having to defend their space from sov lasers (entosis links)?

Ships with jump drives can be held with a point, bubble, HIC etc. Not having a jump capable character is irrelevent. Find where they are jumping to, or when they move through gates from fatigue and point/kill them.

Cap ships are not invulnerable to a solo pilot. While difficult i admit, it could be done. I seem to recall a solo bomber killing an avatar in a XL assembly array the past week. Or catching them when they log off and probing them. I mean a bomber in theory could kill a turret dread eventually. Or "solo" it long enough to get friends inbound to kill it.

As to the OP, arenas are terrible and will absolutely kill roams. All this space, and no point roaming when i can just fire up my WoW dungeon finder.. i mean PvP arena finder and get fights.

PvP is not in terrible shape for your reasons, its becoming terrible because everyone and their mother is running links and being risk averse cowards. If they give links a weapon timer, or a module that forces the ship to be stationary for a few minutes or just remove them entirely would give a massive boost to pvp. As it no longer requires you having to have a 2nd account to get fights.

What are you talking about? Have you ever camped a jump bridge? If not, please stop talking nonsense. JBs and soon these useless gates are by no means safe and secure means of transport. They are just as dangerous and unreliable as normal gates.

If JBs make you lose your ability to mess with players, you are clearly not good enough and do not deserve to mess with them.
