So I've been mulling over replacing my current laptop, which is Windows 8, with one of the new 2015 15 inch macbook pro's. I know from friends that Mac's are the bees knees for general useability, but none of them play eve. I am probably a fairly average EVE player, with two accounts who I do like to play simultaneously for PvP and PvE.

Reading around in this forum it seems that the EVE experience on a MAC is subpar at best but I just wanted a genuine answer if it would meet my needs. As it stands, the crappy windows laptop I have with a HD4000 in it plays eve pretty dam well and I can't really complain, and I know the MBP I am eyeing up blows it away on all levels of performance, but I am worried about the reports of crashing and general useability.

For me to play EVE with an acceptable amount of crashes, i.e not very often, is it possible to play it within Mac OSX or should I just resign myself to buying a copy of Windows too and running it through boot camp? Is parallels still a thing with regards to EVE? I know the Cider thing has come up and doesn't fill me with confidence. I am kind of on the outside looking in and would appreciate a bit of player experiences if there are any.

Runs fine for me on a 2012 Retina 15" MacBook Pro.

But from personal preference, make sure to get 16gb of RAM, you can't upgrade after the fact (ram soldered to logic board).

EVE Online runs very nicely on my early 2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro. I usually have it hooked up to an external HDTV, and run it in windowed mode. There are very few crashes or lookups, and I also use Safari and some SSH sessions in Terminal windows at the same time.

I also run it on a 2010 27" iMac and have very few issues with it as well. Overall, my EVE on a Mac experience has been quite nice since the client was first released in 2006.

I don't have a laptop so can't help on that end.

But when it comes to OSX and EVE, it will be an overall hit and miss.
Generally speaking I never have an issue - there are things that hang up, IGB is one of them.
Was having issues when I had the "download" all patch/client info instead of the background download when it came to undocking.

Another thing is to remember to use clone-maker on Mac, or you will frack yourself up more than you wish.

Hi.

i play eve on 2 very old mac pro's (2006 and 2008) without Performance Problems . I can run 3 Clients if i want. (10 / 12 gb ram and a 5770/5780 gpu). I also have a 2013 Retina Macboc pro, it works also for me but if i play eve you start hearing the fans.

Form the General Point of view there are some frustration problems with the client since some month. The first one is the freeze / wineserver hang using 2 client. For this the is the "clonemaker" workaround.

For me the largest problem is that you cannot stable use the igb because it crashes your client randomly and you have to kill eve/wineserver tasks before you can restart.

There are also issues with max shader setting, but i dont care for this. You can use parralles for eve but i find the performance bad on my "old" systems.

so if you want to go for a mac (and i like macs) you can do it with eve if you dont depend on th ingame browser and life with some restrictions.

Check out the Wine thread as well. Personally eve runs way better under Wine than the cider client in my MBP. But more effort to set up but for me it's higher frame rates with lower heat (fan noise).

Edit: the CQ doesn't work though. Which is another reason to use wine! Browser works so you can PAP.

The Mac hardware can handle the game with ease but the Mac version of EVE is not the most stable one.

For me, opening the IGB often crashes the game. The launcher has it's startup issues here and there and fun freezes for no reason.

I still play it on my MBP because I don't have a gaming PC.
