Server Disconnect in Mission = Dead Battleship!?

I was mopping up my first level 4 mission and got disconnected but it wasn't obvious at first. The game still pretended like it was playing. So I log out and back in and my ship is smoking wreck! Shouldn't it pause the game or something if that happens? The risk vs reward of trying to make 8 million ISK by risking a 200 million ISK battleship that may be slagged from some stupid communication glitch seems not really worth it.

**** when it happens, but i can promise you that if ccp made i so that the mission etc would pause when a dc happens, then someone would just as fast find a way to abuse it.

Losses are a part of eve in a nutshell, and it probably wont be your last loss in this game either.

Raise a reimbursement ticket, if the fault is due to server connectivity at their end they'll generally sort you out. The worst they can say is that the logs show nothing.

Okay, maybe not pause but maybe the ship could warp off. Anything but sit there and die. I don't see how to abuse that. Not anything you couldn't do if you were at the controls and things went sour.

Anyways, didn't mean to come off whiny. I just don't have a good enough internet connection for that kind of business.

Your ship will warp off if it isn't pointed or in bastion. Only one try though, if your bastion cycle ends or the rat releases the point after the e-warp attempt you will stay in the area.

As long as your ship is not warp scrambled (or in lock down as pointed out above) it will carry out an emergency warp 1,000,000 km in a random direction.

Problem is it can sometimes take more than a minute for the server / client to timeout and realise that the connection has been lost.
In the meantime the server / client will blissfully carry on regardless, however it will not respond to any commands, module activation for example.

Unfortunately there is very little you can do other than training skills and fitting your ship so that it can survive the rats long enough for the disconnect to be registered with the server at which point the ewarp will be activated.

I would suggest running mission with friends which can draw the rats fire and give you more time to survive a disconnection.

Don't they reimburse those kinds of losses? Just make a petition and wait 3 day/weeks/months.

Sometimes, they're known for replacing marauder losses due to dc's (upon polite request) largely because bastion module and a crappie connection means certain death unless you're cap stable.

if you are in a marauder in bastion mode you are usually dead if you can't log in right away. Your ship will never leave the mission grid.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Been disconnected several times during missions but have not lost a ship because of it. But then, my ship never stops moving. I think there's a connection.

That is why I run a medium rep on my marauders, I hope to never find out about the Bastion DC reimbursement policy. An extended disconnect might be an issue but thankfully haven't had a problem yet.

and yea, if there are ships that web/point I usually try to kill them first.

Also, I try to advise players new to marauders that bastion should be a last resort. ONLY when incoming damage is too severe for the repper to handle normally. And ONLY when enemy EWAR is preventing you from proceeding in the mission. That's it. The range bonus from bastion? Forget it and just pretend it isn't there.

If you can fly your maurader like a battleship without bastion, you become that much safer from disconnects. It's not perfect, but it does mitigate a lot of the risk.

Fit a tank that can run forever. Active that is cap stable, or a really good passive shield tank. Its the only way to be sure.
Once I had a tank that was just barely not cap stable. I would cycle the repper as needed. Then my computer crashed during a mission, right when the repper was off. It took awhile to get back on, and when I did, one navy Domi was dead.
CCP could not tell the difference between me having an honest computer issue, or me trying to troll them for a free refund for losing my ship via poor play, so: No replacement ship.
Moral: Have a tank that can run forever, just in case. That may nerf your DPS, but doing a mission a little slower is better than exploding.
