I'll also agree with the above poster. There's two (main) reasons people go to school

1) To make more money
2) Because they're passionate about the subject they're studying

Not here in the UK..
No matter what your income everyone in an acceptable age range in the UK is guaranteed a loan from the government to pay of university tuition fees. On top of this you get maintenance loans, grants and bursaries:

£3200 Loan
£3200 grant*
£1200 bursaries
And your tuition fees paid for you.

All of the above means you don't really have to work for 3-4 years..

The point I'm making is, here in the UK probably 70% of the students only go uni for the parties and so they do not have to work.. not sure if its like this for you Americans, I'm interested to know in a response please.

And once you finish you buy a rope and hang yourself, since for avarage pay you would have to work about 10 years to pay it. Without any life. Big smile

Paying it back isn't a problem either, you don't start paying it back until your earning at least £15k a year and the amount you pay back a month is variable from your income and automatically done through tax. You won't even notice it.

Hey guys, I'm going to train all the skills in the Social category to level 5!

Wait, what do you mean I can't make a single ISK off that?

There was a time when college was reserved for those of above average ability to tap their untapped potential. OP's lack of basic spelling and grammar is further evidence that modern "college" is nothing more than a government subsidized money printer for faculties and the politicians they support.

Tin foil hat not required for that one.

To be less rude though, good luck dude, I mean it. While I believe firmly it would be infinitely more valuable for you to grab a two year degree as an electrician or any other trade than a bachelors in communication I wish you the best all the same.

If anyone ever looks at you and says,_ "Hold my beer, watch this,"_  you're probably going to want to pay attention.

If you live in the London area add £1k to all of the above apart from tuition.

And this is the reason why Britain got passed by Brasil in economy performance and China is number 2 in the world.

I'm continually amazed by how many people go to college just to check the "I got a degree" box. College is a multi-thousand dollar investment (remember to count forgone wages) that should be strategically aligned with a career objective (or at least an explicit personal learning objective). If your goal is to improve your grammar and critical thinking - I would recommend frequent trips to your local library as a far better option. If your the type that doesn't like to read or study on your own initiative, then I would re-think whether your ready for college in the first place.

Also - my personal opinion is to go to a top school, get a very unique degree, or don't bother. I throw away every resume I receive with a "check-box" degree from a degree-factory school. Your education needs to make you stand out from the crowd - so make sure it does.

Good luck!

According to the dean of community, cosmology, and communications, Donald Trump, Bernie Madoff, Bob Barker, and Drew Carey all have communications degrees.

Not so worthless now, eh?

Confirming you want an engineering degree if you are looking for real world iskies. I got a BS in mathematics and I'm payed at "social worker" level according to that article. I definitely enjoyed learning "pure math" but I do regret not getting an engineering degree even though I hated engineering classes (the teachers couldn't answer "why... ?").

Says the guy in Eve University / Ivy League.

I suppose that's more of a trade school, though.

I did some research, and I am going to switch to "theoretical engineering" which seems fun, Gordon Freeman had a Theoretical Physics Degree and that was a top notch earner for Sierra.

Basically I will be the guy building the dimensional portal rather than thinking it up.

Requires me to take Advanced Algebra but if the payoff is worth it, can be done.

sad face- i'll be a qualified social worker when i graduate- however i do know that you re far more likely to get a job as a social worker- than you would if you had a degree in maths.

i cant remember but i seen somewhere that only 50% of mathematics graduates get a job- 79% of social work graduates get a job.- and a director of social work gets paid up to 100k a year- a team leader gets paid up to 50k and not to mention a solid pension

*edit- also that article seems very biased- especially since its published in cnn business news section- god i take back what i said above- give me a social worker degree over a maths degree any day- also suicides are lower in my career pathway.

I'm with Brick on this one- make thouse carebearing b******s squeal..

I am to go back to collage on the 7th of January. I will be started as sophomore from transfer credit.

Degree targeted is Bachelor of Communications and Networks, supposedly improving critically thinkers skills.

LOL ironically EVE removing learning skills makes me need them in real life.

There are a bunch of businesslike classes since the degree is part of the business collage. Maybe more ISK to be made once I am mathematically improving. :)

First class is a freshmen composition cause the internet made me stupid on grammatical spelling. LOL

Yeah, seriously, food, energy, water and housing - people always need those things and if you become something like a plumber or electrician there is almost always work.

P.S. Trades don't stop you having a business of your own in that or prevent you from studying part time. They give you something solid to live off and fall back on.
