My advice would be to save up so that you can purchase ~700km3 worth of inputs at a time then use contracts to move goods back and forth. You're going to be looking at ~1-1.5m per jump + a little more for pickup fee if the route is just a couple jumps. doing this everyday for 100km3 isnt going to be worth it but for big loads it is. Once you do that for awhile run your numbers and see if it makes sense to buy a freighter.

Make sure your collateral is 110-120% of the value of the load and then advertise it in "Haulers Channel". It'll move at 1m per jump but make it 2m+ if you want to get someone's attention fast.

Artemis,

Any reason I should not try to max a load out at 845k m3?

Max?

That sounds like a charon cargo size from before freighter rebalancing. These days, depending on fit, they can take anywhere from around 500k m3 to over 1 million m3.
More cargo though = less tank. People may suspect that an 800k cargo is a trap, especially if it has a high collateral.

I believe it is Red Frog Freight's current high-sec max... that's why I used it.

You're right, it is. It's RedFrog's limit, it's only applicable if you're couriering via RedFrog. With them, unless it's ore or trit, you're more likely to run into the collateral limit first.

Whilst I strongly encourage people to haul, it's great fun :)

The major hauling companies offer a reliable and predictable service. People tend to complain about the turn around time, but it is just one massive sausage factory. I like that they have a no scamming code, should you make a mistake.

Perhaps look at haulers channel to post your contracts? Once you find a hauler that can reliably haul to you needs (speed, collateral, Timezone, etc) maybe strike up a regular thing with them? There are of course some horror stories of people taking the max time or indeed ransoming the time of delivery...strange creatures.

Whilst I'm still two weeks from returning, most of my hauling jobs came from traders and Indi that would send private contracts to me. For traders I could have stuff picked up and dropped off whilst they were online. for Indi, it tended to work better when I would be off-set with their Timezone, so I would log on to x contracts and they would then log on to markets full of goods to sell and production bases full of materials.

Hauling yourself is cheaper, but like a lot of guys have pointed out it exposes you to risk at a cost of your time. Eve is great to leverage off of people's interests and experience to focus on what floats your... Errmm spaceship.

Who the hell is this Tupac guy.... And what would he know?
