Character names next to ships since patch

It's nice for use sometimes but always on is very annoying a lot of the time. Is there a way to toggle off the names?

Yeah I agree, it should be off by default. I assume it is a bug. It is not nice to have during combat, specially when you have modified your overview.

You should be able to toggle that by opening your overview settings and under the ship tab uncheck names.

Nop that does not help because now when I hover over I cant see who I am on. and still shows distance. that's what I have an overview for I don't need to see that in space.

So it seems like this is a little bit of fallout form our Tournament Tools. We're working on a fix now and if we find an acceptable workaround we will let you know in this thread. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Quick fix while our dear developers are working on it:


1. Open your Overvview Settings
2. Open the tab called Ships.
3. Uncheck everything

This works.

Except not. It leaves the distance to every ship displayed permanently by the bracket and removes the information when you actually have the ship selected.

It's pretty annoying, but... could you maybe add a thing somewhere to enable it perhaps maybe, once you supply us with the fix ofc. it can be useful for certain things.

You can unclick everything on the Ships tab of the Overview settings, but that isn't exactly practical.

Hello there. Please consider the following while you trying to fix this new feature: it adds a quite nice social dimension/view to the game.
The names right next to the icons make it easier to discern actual players and npcs while flying around. I made about 20 jumps through high sec today and it was quite nice to see actual names of the people in space around me rather than just some ship icons. This added a sort of a more human touch to the game and made me realize that the space is not quite as empty as it often feels like. Also, the lack of need to check the overview or click on the ship to see who's who feels to me like it improves the perception of EvE as a 3D spaceship game rather than a Excel sheet with a space background, maybe because i'm used to see nameplates of players in other MMOs right away, it just seems more natural this way.

Adding an option to show additional information next to the the ship icons for all player ships in space instead of outright removing this feature would therefore be pretty nice.
