Is classic eve piracy confined to low?

Hai gaise!

So I find myself in a null alliance, and while the gaise seem pretty fun to fly with, null just doesn't seem to have the same feel to it...

I don't know if it's the lack of security loss, or the fact that pvp seems more consensual here (not to mention my alliance mates COMPLETE lack of ransoming) but it doesn't feel the same.

So what I am asking, is can I still classify myself as a pie, if I'm acting more as a 'privateer'?

0.0 isn't piracy. it is fighting to either take or hold your own flag's sovereignty.

Depends on a lot of things really..

Historicly the people, who were employed as privateers, were generally referred to as pirates by the enemy. However, if you're part of a group that is directly at war with the enemy, and you work with your standing forces, that would make you more a soldier than a privateer, as privateers, while technicly 'hired' by one side, pretty much did whatever they want.
Translating that to Eve terms, if your bunch just lives there, not technicly part of some big sov holding alliance, but one of the alliances over there pays you in some way ( allowing you to safely live in their territory, isk imbursement for losses, what have you ), then you're most definitely a privateer.

Ofcourse, if you're a privateer in that sense, and things turn sour for your employer, any good 'privateer' ( ie, read pirate ), would quickly chat up to 'the enemy' and see about getting themselves amnesty and a new privateering contract against their former employers.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

i understand that, but as if I was to still prey on passing Industrials, Gank, and Ransom my way across null do i still class myself as a pie?

Also we are still living in NPC null, so sovreingty isnt an issue. It's more like lowsec, but now with moar bubbles :P

I don't think many people in this game can really classify themselves as Pirates. They seem more interested in the ISK Loss on the Killmail then the loot that drops. Sad to say that Suicide Ganking Nado's targeting Haulers are more accurately akin to Pirates then most Lo and Null Residence.

I guess if you commit acts of violence for the loot and take ships and ransom them you are a Pirate. But if you are not engaging enemy ships for the money then you are not one. You are a PvP'er which unlike Pirate doesn't really have a real life term...

Perhaps Serial or Spree Killer. Though less creepy because it is with Spaceships. Perhaps you just like War but don't want to go through the trouble of picking out an enemy or setting up a Country.

Yes most likely. I doubt Piracy has an area code. You would just be doing it farther then the Empires protective net.

Very few null pilots will pay ransoms. We're kind of fearless.

Go to lowsec to get your ransom jollies.

This is pretty much the case. Even with implants, etc. most of us that live on 0.0 reply to ransoms with a F*** off & thx for the ride home.... Oh, and all the fish too......

Do people pay ransom in Lo.

I know their are very few Corporations I would ever drop a cent from my wallet into in exchange for letting me go. I really would not trust any random with the fate of my ship and pay them for the pleasure.

Never dishonoured a ransom in my life.

And just because MOST people say no, doesn't mean I don't extend them the courtesy of an offer. You never know when someone has just realised they are flying in their +5's :P

Some people do, yet I would guess that most do not. People are wary of ransoms because they realize there is nothing stopping the other guy from honoring the ransom - particularly since people have realized that there is no "e-bushido" in EVE Online.

Hello Tallianna Avenkarde,

I feel that you can life your life and be free as only a fancy pirate can be in any kind of space, you simply have to acknowledge the mechanics that are there to work against you. Traditional conceptions may make it harder to convince someone that you will honour ransoms outside of the homeground of Piracy, which we all understand is low security empire. 0.0 might be lawless in the eyes of the residents and indeed away from the watchful eye of CONCORD and yet personal codes of honour can be maintained even when your alliance chooses not to indoctrinate them as a general rule. This does however cause issues where inconsistencies in the behaviour of either your corporation or alliance will in fact tar you with the same brush.

Regardless I hope you manage to strike a balance out there and keep the good ways of honest piracy alive.

People mostly do it for the juicy KMs and not for the ISK these days.
