Moving out to null in a bit and im fitting up ships i want to use for ratting (mainly havens and sanctums, although i will be running other anoms/belt ratting)

My current options are: Mach, Rattlesnake, Vargur, and Golem

I have strong support skills for all for and i have a general idea of fits for each, which would be the fastest runner for these anoms? It seems the rattle can get the highest paper dps, and vargur/golem get better tank obviously.

Which of these 4 would you use, and why? Feel free to include fits

It has been a longtime since I have been a PvE-bear in Angel nullsec but …

Your ship choice should be influenced by which part of angel nullsec you are looking at, your ingame nullsec skills (not skillbook skills), and your support resources (especially a scouting alt). Your skillbook skills will also influence your choices.

If you’re looking at sov-null as a member of the stable sov-holding entity then battleships are likely to be fine, hell a well run carrier is fine. Any of the ones you mention would do, although no doubt ppl will argue that this or that ship would be better / faster. Alternatively you may wish to look at a drone boat, such as the Ishtar, which is slower clearing sites but requires less click-by-click player maintenance. Having a scout alt or three is also useful, especially to watch adjacent systems for potentially hostile folk.

If you’re looking at NPC-null then a BS becomes a much more vulnerable target, and I’d suggest turning your thoughts to smaller ships such as strategic cruisers. In NPC-null having scouts becomes even more important, especially so if you’re moving from system to system. A strat-cruiser also provides the option of cloaked travel and you can either NPC-kill with the gimped covops fit, or mobile depot swap to a PvE combat fit upon arrival.

If you are not yet experienced with nullsec antics then I’d strongly suggest going for smaller cheaper ships to start with, and even limiting yourself to the easier sites. You will get caught, and you will die, it’s only a matter of what you’ve chosen to lose in the process.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

You are welcome!

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.
