GPU Problem with EvE

o7.

I have just bought an ASUS F555L/J laptop and I can't seem to make it use the nVidia GPU for EvE. I use Windows 10 if that could help in any way.

I have tried disabling the Intel GPU via the device manager - no change.

I have tried to set the nVidia GPU as primary in the nVidia control panel - no change.

I have looked in BIOS for a way to disable the Intel GPU - nothing found regarding that.

Hi,

This is a common occurrence for laptop users, I'm assuming that in the Graphical settings in the ESC menu you're seeing that the graphics adapter states that its using the Intel GPU that is onboard your CPU. If so do not worry your laptop should still be using your nVidia GPU to do all of the leg work. When your laptop screen is your primary viewing device all of the rendering data is fed from your nVidia GPU through to your Intel GPU and put on screen so DirectX believes that this is your primary GPU and that information is then picked up by our graphics engine.

There is a piece of software that will tell you when your nVidia gpu is being used though, that way you can be sure that you're getting the most from your machine. I believe it's called the 'Nvidia Optimus GPU State Viewer' a quick google search should supply you with a download link.

Thank you for the response.

I have used the 'State Viewer' while outgame and ingame and the nVidia GPU is not being used in both situations. Is there any other way I can try to see if it would work?

Odd question, but do you have a power source connected to the laptop when attempting to load up EVE? I know some power saving options limit the use of GPU's when disconnected from a main powers source.

I have this issue with my home laptop and have found that when I plug an external display into the laptop (Via HDMI in this case) because the data is being sent out of the laptop I would then get my Nvidia GPU appear in the ESC menu, you could always give that a go and see if it picks up your card then.

I would also say that if your performance on high settings is smooth and you're getting a good frame rate then your laptop is more than likely using the nVidia GPU, an Intel onboard GPU doesn't exactly perform to the same levels on high settings so the difference should be noticeable.

Yes, laptop has been connected to a power source when I tried to run EvE.

After fiddling a bit more with the setting and so on, I've been able to get EvE to 'use' the nVidia GPU. Even if EvE says that it runs with the GT 920M I have the same performance as I would have on the Intel GPU(sub optimal to only stay docked and chat). So I'm a bit more confused now than I was before.

o7.

Coming back with how I solved my problem. It was really simple(a friend helped me out and explained the how and why). This worked for me at least.

First of all be sure to have all the updates installed. Then, when you enter EvE even if it says it runs on the Intel GPU have no worries, set your game graphics to medium or higher and then you'll either have to restart the game or you'll see instant changes on your framerate.(turns out that if the Intel GPU can run the game it will run it despite your settings in the GPU control panel; so making the game 'harder' to run on the Intel GPU will kick in the other GPU and your game should run just fine). As I've previously said in the post, this worked for me and might work for you too.

Hope this will help some other people and thanks for the quick answers @CCP Savior.
