Level 2 Security Missions ... I keep getting dicked

Hello,

This is my first post so be gentle.

- I was wondering if any of you guys have advise on how to make the level 2 security missions a little bit easier for me.

- I have a Coercer, with 96.9 DPS

- I have a lot of capacitor issues with trying to keep an Armor Repairer going.

Should i be looking to get a Maller to make it easier or is there a trick im missing with my Coercer ?

Regards

Hello,

generally speaking:

L1 - frigates
L2 - cruisers
L3 - battlecruisers
L4 - battleships
L5 - carriers

For those who are English-impaired and don't understand the meaning of "generally" (not you, Tomski, but there will be the inevitable "lol i runz l4s in my assfrig n00b"):

you can run L2s in a dessie, but need at least half-decent skills to do so. When I see that your Coercer puts out a whopping 96.9 DPS I would say you're not there yet. Same with your cap issues.

Similar thing applies with the other, higher level missions. E.g. you can run L3s with HACs, L4s with assfrigs Roll or L5s with T3 cruisers and so on; but it takes a decent skill set to do so efficiently.

Fake edit: regardless of your skill-level, the only L4s you can run somewhat efficiently in an assfrig are, off the top of my head, Cargo Delivery and Recon. Really.

Get an omen, it's far better on capacitor.

I had a similar experience when I made the jump from L1 missions in my Catalyst to L2 missions. Upgrade to a Cruiser.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

Player and character skills is what you are missing and both will come with time.
Like the rest for now go with a cruiser.

sounds like you need to work on your skills and the fit. Skills will take time, as for the fit

I'd try something like this, it is pretty similar to what I used to use and will fit with lower skills. Most of the modules you can replace with meta versions. it is showing 111 dps with almost no skills in eft, and goes to over 200 with all 5 skills. The main strategy is to kite out and shoot things as they fly right at you. With lasers you can instantly swap ammo so that is awesome for range control.

the other main option is to take a cruiser as said earlier. you can fit an omen with a similar fit and strategy. Just be sure to jump to cruiser sized mods, and train a few drone skills in case something gets under your guns. A few drones help out a bunch with npc frigs.

Cheers for this guys you have given me something to think about here.

It seems like it isn't about getting bigger and bigger ships.

there are a few cases (usually pve) where going up a size you can cheese it and make it work. the main issue with that is bigger ships can't hit smaller ships as well, and that can lead to frustration and/or ship loss.

If you've got any drone skills, you might also consider switching to a Dragoon instead. You can dish your damage out at a bit greater of a range, which can take some of the heat off of you. You will have to keep an eye on the little guys, but I found that with my low skill alt I had better results with it than the Coercer for level 2's.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

You may also want to look at the Capacitor control circuit rig. They really help keep your repper running.

Correct, it's about using the right ship and fit for the job.

Ships in Eve generally eat the ships one class below them, but have problems with ships further down the food chain. There are exceptions, of course.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

one small point for you to remember

when you increase your armour repair skill. your armour repairer will use more capacitor

train cap skills before armour skills and you'll be fine

Yes, but since it repairs more, you won't have to run it as often. Lots of PVE ships are built around cap stability (including plenty of mine), because it is simply easier to deal with. This can make us lazy in PVP situations, however, where you only run the repair if you need it. If you learn to manage your cap early, Eve is better in the long run.

T1 destroyers aren't really a good choice for PvE as they're purely focused on damage output and lack the layout for a strong tank. A well fit cruiser, even with low skills and named T1 mods, will tank so much more than a destroyer and should be able to eat level 2 missions easily; even some level 3s.

Pfft, T1 dessies can handle level 2 missions easily if you fit them right.

I always favor distance-tanking, then it makes most of your defensive skillset a non-issue for the moment.

Equip your dessie with guns and ammo that will hit out at about 30km. This will allow you to complete most level 2s without taking damage, just use an afterburner or something to keep yourself away from the enemies.
