Hello, I've had a quick google and it seems a lot of people have issues with this, but how would I go about getting EVE to stop automatically drawing money off of my card when the sub runs out? I'd like to do this without cancelling the extra time it gave, I'd just like it to not take any money in the future without me explicitly permitting it to.

Apologies if this is something really obvious that I'm just not seeing.

As I understand, when you "cancel" your subscription, you still have access to the remainder of gametime you were subscribed for. You do not immediately lose access to logging in. So... "cancel" might be a misnomer, and instead should be called "stop getting more game time". The latter does not roll off the tongue as well though.

For an official CCP response to this, you could file a support ticket to ask about it. Billing-related questions get answered relatively quickly.

Edit: Since I have been gone for a bit and am just getting back in the saddle, I am apparently unfamiliar with CCP's upgraded support system. Here is the relevant FAQ page on what you're asking about: https://ccpcommunity.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203411192-Cancelling-subscription . Most notably:

Quote:
Cancelling the subscription will only disable the account once the remaining game time has expired and no further subscription payments have been made for the account. The expiry date of the remaining game time will be listed on the cancellation confirmation screen.

Hope this helps!

I cancel the sub right after I pay. That stops them from autorenewing my account. It does let you keep the remainder for your game time

Ah, alright, that's what I needed to know. Is there an option upon account creation to opt-out of the auto-renewal, or is that just part of the process?

You can't permanently opt out, you just have to cancel the sub.

CCP desing at its finest. Just they actually changed it a few months ago, they didn't used to autocharge Paypal and so it was a convenient way to control your subscription...

But then we are talking about a game by a company where you can't know the remaining time of your subscription from within the game. Nor access the ingame help, actually, since they've moved it to a external website which can't be browsed with the ingame browser.

All those are little details which display !!CCP!! design at its finest.

I uncheck the box in Account Management that says, "Bill me automatically in future", (or something similar). Then I pay with PayPal.

Six days before my sub comes up I get an email from CCP letting me know it's going to croak. I can let it lapse or not. No auto-billing problem.

It could be something to do with you using a card directly rather than PayPal, or perhaps missing that checkbox. If you can't link your card to PayPal then the cancelling method may well be simpler. Good luck.

It's no longer and option, you will autorenewing unless you cancel now.

I thought you could see remaining game time in game. Just look under pilot license in character sheet?

Mal: "If anyone gets nosy, just...you know... shoot 'em. "

Zoe: "Shoot 'em?"

Mal: "Politely."

This.^^^

Somebody at CCP decided to change the default to auto-renew. Used to be off by default now it's on by default. I think it's ttheir bad attempt to generate more revenue. Hoping people don't catch it or something. I think it's actually costing them more in customer service issues and complaints. That's what happens when you let bean-counters run the world.
