Chat channels are a simple way to have all your chars available in one place, including useful links and similar, that can't be detected.

As long as it's only the channels that you're a mod or owner of, it's less of a concern, but considering even private mailing lists are viewable on the API, private chat channels offer a bit of a critical utility in sharing links, data, and simple convenience with your own alts.

Hopefully the channels a person is in and not a mod or owner of will never end up on the API.

You are right! Only chat channels you own or are an operator of will show up. Simply joining a chat channel will not affect the data exposed through this endpoint.

how far are we from read/write access to chat channels? ;)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Pretty sure the example in the blog is wrong from an XML encoding perspective. I think the "bold" delimiters in the motd of the example channel need to be escaped with < and > At least, that's what my XML verifier says. Haven't had a chance to test actual output on the servers yet.
