We ALL KNOW vets are the lifeblood of this 12year old video game.
We keep it alive.
How can we keep our subs alive?

The same conditions I had when I started playing would be great. I still pay my sub, but don't play as much.

The conditions were: me in college with a decent scholarship, 23 years old and not a worry in my life.

I'm an 11.5 year vet.

There was a htread floating around, about giving people who have been here for 10 years a gift, and possibly another at 15 and 20. I think this would be a good start for some, and here is why...

In the real world, shortly after i got married and quit my crappy mobile tech job, i was unemployeed for a bit. I eventually got hired on at Geek Squad for best buy. Typical retail issues, and me being blunt irl makes me not have very good customer service skills. Anyway, the job was meh, the people i worked with were awesome. About three years into it, i was getting bored. And was thinking of changing jobs (in hind sight i should of) then one of our morning meetings, it was announced that not only would 5 year best buy employees get the best buy watch, but geek squad people of five years would get a leather jacket.

At the time, i was kind super into leather jackets, and i said.. well two years huh... ya i could do that.

Two years later, i had my son, my watch, and my jacket. A year later i got canned. (long story)

The point is, an incentive for staying, made me decide that i could hang on a bit, because, well, what the heck. I knew a couple other people who had the same idea.

So, a way that might keep some people thinking 'gods, i've been here 8 years.. wtf am i doing?!?1" migh be to give a 'if you hit 10 years you get this random but cool thing! incentive. The vet station was an interesting idea, but something more useful, like a special skin, a sword for the captains quarters, an outfit or maybe a specla ship might make a few people who might want to bounce go.. well i can wait a bit...

I still have the jacket and watch so meh.

Oh yay, wheee. A little gift so we'll "hang on" a bit more, as if there are no other reasons to stay!

and its a CAM thread, what did you expect i was going to pull a silver bullet out my behind so he can get the credit? HA!

I kind of expected you to pinch the bridge of your nose until you looked like Owen Wilson..

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

You could try playing the game instead of spending all day trying to come up with new stupid threads to start.

Drinking before pregnancy occasionally has side effects, like pregnancy.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Well we gotta do something to turn it around. The last patch stopped the bleeding for a couple weeks, but this week was down a bit from last and the week before likewise.

So looks like you can count on a slide to start again, heading into Eve's worst time of year Oct/Nov.

We are going to have to get used to player averages around 15-16k pretty soon... well, that is unless CAM biomasses and logs off the forum.

CCP Quant: Of all those who logon in Eve, 1.5% do Incursions, 13.8% PVP and 19.2% run Missions while 22.4% mine.

40.7% Join a fleet. The idea that Eve is a PVP game is false, the social fabric is in Missions and Mining.

"We"? wait what? Date of Birth: 2015-01-07 18:29. Not saying you couldn't have been around longer, but you post like you haven't. As with most mmo's, first noted by devs back in early UO (they were very transparent actually, unlike anything today), new players on avg last 3-6 months. That's not counting the many that don't go past trial.

And then not everyone that does make it to the first year vet status makes it to second year vet. And in most cases when games lose vets that go beyond even that, it's when they do radical changes to the game to make it easier, to use the system to retain those new players rather than rely on happy vets to do the work of helping to retain new players, even bringing them in by one way or another (e.g. friends, reviews, assistance etc).

By and large, vets don't want the game made easier for players that are not retaining long-term nor would retain, not at the cost of turning EVE into yet another dull dumb game like all the others are or have become. EVE has already had the bad boy status of being harsh and unforgiving for a very long time (apart from WiS), and long term retention of vets are of those that prefer and adapt to the harsh and unforgiving reality of the game.

Punch them in the nuts, repeat as necessary.

If they stayed long enough to become a bitter EVE vet this is what they are looking for in their gaming.

Yawn,  I'm right as usual. The predictability kinda gets boring really.

1: If CCP pretended to actually listen to the members and not the terrible CSM who do nothing but give terrible agenda based advice.
2: Get rid of the CSM or change it to a 1 nullsec, 1 low sec, 1 high sec member so they can give equal views to issues. Ideally individuals involved in PVE and PVP alliances. Then, when they are done. Get rid of them.
3: If players would undock for content and not for killboard stats, retention would go higher. Part of the issues with lower rates are these terrible changes being implemented by CCP. Though, to be completely honest. It also has to do alot with the players. Large groups are so far spread out in the game. Moving assets is a complete chore of its own. Why move to have ships destroyed when you can just sit and make isk all day on alts? Why don't people undock and make fights? I mean, OP, Brave moved to Aunsou and to be completely honest. Out of all the small fleets I have taken there you guys just play docking games for an hour before we just leave and go find someone else. You have three to FIVE times the number in system we do. Yet you do not undock. YOUR alliance is part of this inactivity bug. You are not the cause for alot or it, or even 5% of it, but you are part of the problem with never undocking and playing the game. Never trying to do fleets except when it is to take a moon or asset of some kind. Never wanting to fight. Alot of alliances are this way when we do nullsec roams. A lot of players are causing this boredom just as much as CCP is creating a ****-show of localized content with far too many systems and not enough players.

Prior active 2006-2011.

Recently returned although kept tabs on things during the time I was otherwise occupied. Kept my original guys...never sold...never bought.

A couple observations from a non-bitter pilot:

1-The term "content creation" is simply dumb. And overused. EvE has always been a sandbox....always will be. If you are bored create your own fun and excitment. Lead by example. Quite frankly the EvE I have returned to is a more interesting place to romp around in and generally more accessible.

2-Nullsec and the new sov-mechanic associated whining is ridiculous. The big fat happy blue donut getting you down? Get out of your cage and go **** in their playpen. If all you have is blues on overview....well...thats on the individual.

3-The blather from much of the player base is offensive, selfish, and pathetic. The general tone of players has changed......it is sad to see that the rot of external influences has spread so widely....seriously you talk like that outside game to people? Yeah....thought not. I know I am not the only one who feels that way.

Fortunately I found a good crew to share the game with. And it's nice to be back in EvE generally speaking.

And not every vet is bitter.

Nor does every vet need/want something. Like anyone else if I want to play I will. If I get no enjoyment from the game itself....I will go do something else. End of story.

Much of it needs player base mentality change.
Undock. No really do it. take fights that you may not win. Take fights you'll probably lose. Take more fights. Don't be so depressed you lost your Atron/Vexor. If peopel spent half the time they spend docking and complaining and just used it to rat/fight, they'd never be bored and have plenty of ISK .

Nerf everything T3. All of it. Cruisers and Dessies are toxic.

PVP in your backup marauder.

Understand that bringing your linked quafed nano kiting D3 isn't going to get a fight.

Killboards, ISK efficiency, and losses are just numbers. So are kills. Anyone can whore in a titan, don't be impressed when people do it, don't be impressed when you do it.

Take a solo fight. It's not always a trap.
