Looking for a Nomad?

Hi!

I'm back! Well, I'm back from a hiatus (again), and I want to try something new (again).

I'm looking for a ship to roam the galaxy in, nothing specific and no single task in mind, a bit of exploration and PVE, I'd like to be able to dabble here and there with things I find on the fly, it'll need to take a mobile depot so I can at least adapt slightly.

Basically I'd like to be able to just roam and do my own thing, it doesn't need to be a DPS monster, but should be able to at least get away from a fight in one piece if need be.

Could I be more vague? Probably, oh well.

Discuss, what would you choose to just roam around and see the sights?!

J

They are the easy choice I know. I can fully fit a Tengu and a Prot, and I'm just the T2 lasers away from the Legion. I love the T3's but I'd scared of losing too expensive a ship all the time :/

I think I know what you're looking for. You're not alone. First question which is important is how many alts are you going to be using? Or just yourself?

Stratios, not exactly cheap but a cheaper alternative that is still somewhat what you are looking for.
Astero also is capable of defending itself to a degree.

Just do what everybody else does and fly around in an Improved cloaky Orca.

I was actually looking at doing something similar on my combat char and I'm looking at the new t3 dessies. The svipul seems really fun. Not sure if you're looking for something bigger or not. I prefer small stuff for PvP since I'm terrible but you might be looking for something bigger? Just my .02 isk.

fyi the ham legion is pretty beast, can get pricey yeah but if you have a scout to carry the spare modules and subs then your considerably less likely to loose one .

Astero. Cloaky, mobile, can fit a heavy tank for a frigate (buffer or dual rep w/ cap booster), can deploy a full flight of light drones which will easily shred another explorer. Those drones can also kill or chase off enemy frigates that might try to tackle you, and the Astero can carry 3 full flights of them. Carry a full set of hacking gear with a depot for exploration, a covops cloak and probe launcher to sneak around and find sites and wormholes, and whatever PvP fittings you find suitable should you want to hunt other exploration frigates.

The Stratios can run the same way it's just far more expensive and a bit less mobile. It also doesn't get hacking bonuses and lacks the DPS to be truly effective at running combat sites.

However what the Stratios IS good for, is camping site gates and ambushing T3's with neuts and drones.

A travel fit interceptor for simply roaming - fast, slippery and cheap. Covert Ops frigates you get a cloak instead of the interdiction nullifier - also fast and cheap

I priced up a Tengu the other day and it came to 360 million for hull and subsystems - which seems pretty reasonable for the capability you get.

Gnosis kind of fun tbh.

While T3's are highly flexible they offer little to no cargo room after mods, extra subsystems and a mobile depot are all squeezed in. A Stratios has a massive cargo bay for its size however even with the resists bonus its tank is a little light when also fitting for damage for drones. You could shield fit but then you may run into cap problems and you've wasted an armor bonus. It really boils down to personal preference and how much can you compromise to get what you want.

Stratios wrecks T3's 1v1 with neuts. Shield kite Stratios seems pretty effective against a bunch of stuff.
