How lazy can you be with guns?

Throughout my "life" in eve I've tended to fly drone and missile boats. Mostly because you can swap out range and damage type very easily and not have to worry about too much tracking/range etc.

Missiles: in range? check? correct damage type? check...FIRE THE MISSILES

Drones: correct damage type? check....FIRE THE DRONES AND AFK

Just looking to see how much of a pain it is for projectiles, hybrids, and energy weapons if at all since I've never really tried them.

Thoughts?

I don't do a ton of missions, but turrets do require more attention (Getting into range, targeting new rats, reloading, etc)

Drones are definitely the way to go for lazy mode.

Also, in before the flaming for afk missioning :P

Missiles can almost be just as afk friendly as drones
of course you will take a small dps hit, but you only need to press F1 occasionally with auto-targeting missiles

Gunboats definitely require much more attention

I've run DEDs with all three systems. Drones are annoying as far as I'm concerned. Yes, they get the job done but as often as not it feels like I'm herding cats with those damn things. Sentries help a bit but... not that much.

Missiles are fine I guess, but you do end up facing application issues. You do have the option of switching ammo between frigates and *other* but it eats into your time to clear. I do still prefer them under certain circumstances (like kiting at long range when you really, really don't want to get close but need to stay moving to mitigate damage).

Guns do have some application issues, but for the most part you can mitigate them just by changing direction. Maintaining transversal against all ships except the one you're shooting at takes a bit of getting used to, but after you adapt they tend to lead to better clear times. Guns also have less issue blapping frigates so long as you can pull range (and get things to chase you). It's a different experience, sure, but I find it more interesting and at the end of the day more efficient.

target the small stuff when it spawns and blap it before it can get moving. or double tap away from the spawn and blap stuff as it flies damn near right at you. for pve guns are pretty dang lazy. assuming you are like at least looking at the screen. if you don't even want to look at the screen then yea go with auto-targeting missiles or drones.

Missiles:

Can't be neuted? Check
Can't be tracking disrupted? Check
Not caring about transveral? Check
100% chance of hitting if they are in range? Check
Do all damage types? Check

BUT MISSILES NEED A BUFF!!!1

Drones = herding cats. Agree 100%

Missiles = need a buff. Agree 110% Twisted

I've got Gallente cruiser 5 and T2 medium hybrids as well so I think I'll go that route.

Any recommendations for ships? At the moment my tengu runs ~750 DPS with a 450 Gurista DPS tank. Anything that can compete with that? Obviously tengu has a little bit of bling...nothing too crazy (don't hunt me Pirate )

Not to mention that fact that missiles continue to apply at least some of their damage beyond max range, right? Oh, wait...

Also, I wouldn't say 100% given that the server likes to swafferdunk missile application routinely near max range, making max range in fact an issue of having a margin of error. And CCP has already stated that EWAR disruption for missiles is in the works.

There's plenty more wrong with nearly all of this check list, but to push away from the instinctual **** measuring contest, to the OP; Yes, turrets require a bit more attentiveness from the pilot, but given some of their advantages and disadvantages, I for one don't see why that's an issue for turrets. Try them, you will see some good upsides to them you may have missed.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Rattlesnake will run circles around that. And if you have Missile and Drone skills it may be your next step. It's pretty much the ultimate ship.

oh and there is that tiny little factoid that incoming missiles can be shot down enroute.
likewise the delayed application of damage, and at the extreme ranges sometimes a complete lack of damage due to the target moving outside of range while the missile is still mid-flight.
dont get me wrong, I love them, but they do have their drawbacks in exchange for their versatility.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.
