The Hulk and I

I'm looking for a good Assault Ship setup to hunt Hulks whom I have already Wardec'ed so Concord is not an issue. I can fly Minmitar, with Amarr in the oven training, and I am worried about ultra tanked Hulks who are mining with their Hammerhead IIs out. I want to fly into a belt and scram the guy, then pound him into dust before the Drones can hurt.

Gyrostabilizer II

Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Anti-Kinetic Pump I

169 DPS (w/o Overheat)
6.5k Armor/Shield EHP Combined. (If i'm in structure it is too late)

My PG and CPU are filled with current fitting skills so no gun rigs, Is this fit capable of killing Hulks? Also if there is a better setup please let me know. I'm partial to frigs so it will take a bit for me to up to cruiser and sorry if my EFTfu is weak.

Now here is a topic i have some experience with.

To start, your first concern when hunting hulks is going to be getting point before they warp. Usually, hulks will move deep into belts, rather than sitting on the warp in, so you'll probably want an MWD rather than an afterburner. This may require you to drop to 150s or otherwise change your fit, but the dps is worth the far faster speed.

For barge hunting, you may want to consider a long point over a scram, for the extra range. This will depend on if the enemy hulks fit stabs, and honestly not many do, as it cuts into their isk/hour, this really depends on the corp. Check their battleclinic losses and search forums for any posts by prominent members about stabs etc. Also, keep in mind scram will help you against things like ceptors and other AFs that may come to the hulk's assistance, where as a point will allow you more range flexibility on larger targets.

For a tank, it depends on the ship and your flying style. If your in a wolf, your either gonna be buffer armor or active armor. Buffer is easy to fly, but a bit slower, and in a longer fight, your buffer may run down. An active tank is a bit faster, and has more staying power against trickling damage such as that of unbonused hulk drones, however its vulnerable to neuts and takes more skills to fly (both skill-points and pilot experience). My suggestion for hulk killing would be an active tank, as the speed and maneuverability are important, and a hulk will not really deal enough damage to break you, and if it is by some chance breaking you it'll give you lots of time to kill enough drones to break their dps.

Ultimately though, most setups can kill a hulk that is fit for mining, even over-tanked varieties. When planning your fit, it may benefit you to consider more the other ships you may end up fighting, rather than the hulks.

Hope it helps,

I'd drop the guns to 150s and try to fit a neut. Barges have crappy cap regen and usually fit active tanks.

Thrasher may be best, just sorta slipped my mind when I planned this. Probably would fit a cloak and find one solo mining so when they return to belt I will be uncloaked and able to lock.

This is bad for two reasons:

  1. You will show up in local as a war target. No element of surprise whatsoever.
  2. Your targeting time will be gimped.

Try scouting with an alt in a mining frig first. Fleet your main with the alt, park the alt at optimal near the Hulk, and then warp to your fleet member.

Because your character has a name that is towards the beginning of the alphabet you're likely to get spotted in local pretty soon after you jump in, so your ability to kill a hulk who is paying attention while he is mining (it does happen) relies on your ability to align and warp very quickly, so you might be better off with an interceptor because of the additional warp speed.

Also you want a disruptor instead of a scrambler because sometimes the hulk ends up jumping in on you as you are waiting for a warp-in or for some reason you land 20km away from the guy.

Personally I prefer to use an abaddon to kill war target hulks.

Make a trial alt, add the target corp to watchlist (untick 'send notification' ) so you can scan local quicker and then just get a warpin. It's really easy and even easier with the new 60 day trials.

Don't do this. If you hit any of the loads of space-trash that technically belong to NPC Corps or Concord then you'll die. I think warp beacons count.

This may be outdated info, but I've just always been told to never even fit a smartbomb in high-sec.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

1. Get a ship with guns. Destroyers are very efficient damage/cost.
2. Use an alt to get a warp-in, or bookmark the location and pass it to your character.
3. Profit.
