It's a stupid requirement. If you know what their main is then what? Does it change anything? it is what is being said which is the key to its credibility.

I have it on good authority that Avvy is a corp thief. He robbed one of my ALTs corps but I won't tell you which in case of retribution or Bob forbid you do some fact checking and find out what I said was because he killed my blingy battleship because I was flying it like an idiot and now I'm pissed off about it...

Also I speak with great authority on the issues plaguing nullsec and low sec with my vast unnamed ALTs experience so what I say is beyond question...

Not really.
The President of the United States gets on TV and declares that an asteroid is about to hit the earth and wipe out most of the human race. People panic, find shelter or find something on their bucket list that can be accomplished really fast.

A homeless bum camera bombs a newscast and declares the same thing. People laugh and the video trends on youtube for about 6 minutes.

I should have made it clearer I was specifically referring to games forums. It was about players posting with mains or alts not even about CCP telling us something.

Or do you think what you say is more credible than what another player says. Likelihood is most don't know either of you so it comes down to what is said, what someone already knows about the game and common sense.

Then you could say but a 12 year old character shows they know something about the game, but it doesn't necessarily they may have just purchased it from the bazaar. On the other hand you don't know how long someone has played the game for if they're using an alt. So it comes back to what I bolded and underlined.

You should have known better as you already knew what the subject was.

Edit:

But anyway we're straying from the topic so this will be my last words in the thread about mains and alts.

If you want to use an alt do so, it really doesn't make any difference using a main or alt except by using an alt you can protect your main. If you consider that a factor then an alt is the way to go.

The point is all about the credibility from you.

Will you take what a random guy from the streets says about the economy to the US to be more true over what the known experts says about it?

Again, it's all about credibility and all about getting the info from the persons we KNOW knows their stuffs.

You are just as random as an alt as the random person on the streets is. So we can't take you as a random alt to have any credibility.

2: Clash of the Empires

3: Suddenly Spaceships fighting in Tama

This really is the final word from me on main and alts in this thread.

The point is other players won't know who is an expert, like I said in the previous post.

You don't know with an alt or main for that matter how experienced a player is. The clues to how experienced they are comes in what they say.

It's still all about getting the info from a player that doesn't have any problems to show who his main is, because if he shows who his main is, then we know he will have more credibility behind his words. Because if you posts with your main, it's a much higher chance that the thief you claim is a thief actually might be a thief for real. Because if you did post with your main and then lied to everyone about this, then it would hurt your name.

With an alt, you can just make things up and doesn't have to worry about lying as you can just delete your alt and make a new one and do the same thing over and over.

Get the point now?

When I talk on highsec, wardecs, PvP fittings and/or experience it is a simple matter to check out my killboard, corp history and what others will say about it who do know me or of me. When somebody without any of these things makes a statement on such matters it carries little to no weight as they have no provable experience. So yes what I say is 100% more credible then what a random no experience alt says/claims. Again if you want your opinion respected (not necessarily agreed with) but at least taken note of do so on a character who has the experience to talk about such things. Most people don't like what veers has to say for one or his play style etc but nobody disputes his knowledge of how to avoid wars and ganks. See credibility really is everything in this forum and its earnt not given away

Its not a CCP requirement. In fact a while ago a thread went up from the locals here entitled "rules of posting" in which rule one was "post from your main or gtfo" and it was locked cos only CCP are allowed to moderate these forums. Given how many people like to boast (looking at you Feyd) that they actively gank forum whiners in game I'd say it was a smart choice to use an alt to complain about gankers, scammers and other nev'do'wells on these forums. Ofc they could always just research the game they were playing and HTFU, but hey we all make mistakes right?

Your blurring the lines here between legitimate experience and legitimate opinion. If I want a highsec PVP fitting for a tech 3 I'd come and ask you not me. You'd know far more about it you have the experience. Now come and talk about war decs in high sec and wether they are harming both pvpers and pvers... now you could talk to both of us. Cos thats opinion and we can both contribute. I dont need to have provable experience of being humiliated or being made to feel humiliated to be able to express the entirely valid opinion that normally I only pay for that sort of thing from mistress at the start of the month! I certainly don't log into computer games for it.

If I chose to state that as an alt for fear of further humiliations (as it might be seen by me however incorrectly) or on a main, that wouldn't change the validity of what was being felt nor would it make the opinion anything more or less then what it was: an opinion. Wether main or alt, its still the view of the player and we should judge it on wether or not it actually holds weight.

The mystical humiliation (aka internet spaceship bullying) retort. Just throwing it out there but in all my posting I'm yet to feel humiliated in game or suffer all these negative consequences for posting... maybe it's the way these people post cause I post some pretty controversial stuff at times including a proposal to end highsec war corps in their current format.
