Hey all I been thinking instead of the avg. close combat frigate or the usual range of barrage ammo woulld an art fit rifter work and what is the range of artillery? How do you figure artillery range when looking at attributes? Thanks...

It varies. Use Evemon.

Arty Rifters can be fun.

They can also fail in spectacular fashion if you cant keep range.

As has been mentioned, use Evemon, EFT, or Pyfa. They are out-of-game programs that allow you to plan out ship fittings and determine their attributes and such without having to actually buy the modules beforehand.

To answer your question (off the top of my head, I don't have access to EFT right now), a 250mm artillery Rifter will likely have about a 7-9 km optimal range, with another 5-6 km falloff range, using EMP, Phased Plasma or Fusion ammo. Other ammos increase the range but lower the damage. 280mm artillery will also have longer range and more damage, but I have not seen any good ways to get three 280mm guns on a Rifter because of fitting limitations.

Also, keep in mind artillery has far poorer tracking than autocannons. You will most likely not be able to hit anything that's closer than 4-5 km and moving.
