After spending years in development, the first self contained RNGRI-based cloning system is ready for use in the wider universe. Already in heavy use in Origin, it is hoped that application of the RNGRI systems will be able to save billions of lives in high-risk environments. The system, called Slingshot, is entirely self contained, easy to use and upgrade, and to ensure it receives as wide of a release as possible, we are open sourcing the design for the RNGRI component of the systems. After one year as a proprietary product to recoup development costs, we will be additionally releasing the Goldenrod computing architecture that the system runs on.

One complete Slingshot system contains the following:
1 Riordan-Nilanth Gravitational Resonance Imaging Bed
1 Wetware Server running Goldenrod 2.2, the latest version of the Nilanth adaptive-interpolative scan interpretor.
1 Cloning Tube

With this basic setup, the user should be able to create a software backup of one person every three hours without harming them. The server will at default have the storage space for up to 1000 mind-states, with additional storage capacity easily added using after market data storage. The cloning tube allows one person to be re-lifed every seven days. The set up is designed to be modular and expandable, easily allowing the addition of more scanning beds, cloning tubes, and data storage for all your scaling needs. Its also designed for self sufficiency and ease of use, allowing easy deployment in remote areas by humanitarian organisations.

Those interested in expanding on, or further researching into this technology will be able to purchase a developer kit featuring full documentation on all components, though rights-of-reproduction will be withheld until after the one year window has elapsed. After that time blueprints for all systems and software source codes will be made available for free on galnet. The goal is to produce a product as airtight and functional as possible. The goal is to make cloning a realistic option for anyone in the cluster who wants it, regardless of nationality, income bracket, or location. Everything else including profitability of this venture, comes second to that goal. To that end we strive to be as transparent about all systems and processes as possible. Our factories will never be able to produce all the Slingshot systems needed to avert all death across New Eden. It will take many companies and many individuals working together across vastly disparate fields to achieve the full scope of this goal, we can't do it alone and don't want to.

The expense and damage to our bottom line will be offset by the knowledge and comfort that families will be able to remain whole despite the ravages of accident and disease. We plan to offer this cloning service free of charge to our employees and their dependents. Initial surveys indicate it is a very strong inducement to have employees consider spending their entire careers in our member corps.

I see the point Saede is making, this tech does not make Mass cloning more viable than it already was. I shall be submitting a letter to one of the CEP's many secretaries reccomending that this technology be tested by the State in the hopes of improving our already peerless economic capability.

The model we use in Origin is that cloning is a service provided to citizens. The cost of the equipment is paid for by the reduction in training costs for those killed in the line of work. Outside of Origin, the masses aren't really the targeted demographic for purchasing the cloning technology. 1 million isk per slingshot system is still outside the range of the average citizen, however it is well within the range of insurance companies and individual businesses with employees in high-risk areas. Joe Caldari wouldn't need to buy the system, either his company could, or he could purchase insurance that would back him up and clone him if needed. This method could be used to make the system affordable to the general population while keeping companies that make them available operating in the black.



Given the choice between developing amnesia about the last year, and dying and leaving your family forever without a parent or their income, I suspect most will choose amnesia. That said, the backup process only requires 3 hours, so it could be done fairly often, on a weekly or monthly basis. If the company providing the service charges by the mindstate update, it should prove to be profitable. Those who can afford to get more regular backups will get them, while those who can only afford the backup once a year will still have a way to avoid death should the unthinkable happen. Those in more risky fields will of course likely want more frequent backups, while those in safer office jobs might only need to be backed up once a year.



I fully expect that capsuleers will be some of the most prolific early adopters of the technology, which is why the system is being advertised on the IGS. Given the choice between losing your crew every time you lose a ship and having to start out again with a novice crew, and having your entire crew backed up, allowing you to jump back into the fight with a new ship with the same skilled crew...well its a fairly easy sell I would think.
