I did some math and I learned that: if a miner was mine 0 sec ore to sell it for isk, mining without boosts at almost perfect skills, he would get about 30m/h.

Does this number look right?

If the number is right, why would anyone be a miner? As I see it, there are professions that yield higher isk/h and take less skill.

Does one need to be an industrialist and a trader to increase the isk/h reward of the mining profession?

Thanks.

you are assuming you would be able to get your mineral to market or find a buyer at that price in null sec?....

I've been mining in null for over 2 years with multiple accounts.

One rat protector.
One booster.
8 miners in Macks.

I'll pull one miner for early warning next door if necessary.

Use the macks, dump to a compressor. Booster compresses and transfers ore while macks are squad warped back to where I'm mining.

Mining scales really well with multiple accounts.
First thing you gotta do though is get out of high sec. It's WAY safer in null.

***(27.08.2015 - Updated with Medium Mercoxit Crystal Optimization I)***

When mining in a Skiff in Null Sec with max skills and max boost with the ore values from fuzzwork. I came to the following results:

Bistot 78.712.530 ISK / hour
Mercoxit 71,893,820 ISK / hour
Arkonor 63.707.214 ISK / hour
Crokite 51.861.286 ISK / hour
Hedbergite 43.906.019 ISK / hour
Hemorphite 41.383.243 ISK / hour
Spodumain 41.186.816 ISK / hour
Dark Ochre 40.750.182 ISK / hour

This does not include the hauling effort and paying the heavy water for the rorq. What do you think is an appropriate factor?

Please correct me if I'm wrong! This is how I did the number crunching:

Skiff Mining Amount:
Skiff effective mining amount = (Strip Miner II Mining Amount)*(Asteroid Specialization Yield Modifier)*(1+Role Bonus)*(1+0,05*Mining Skill)*(1+0,05*Astrogeology Skill)*(1+Mining Laser Upgrade Bonus)*(1+Highwall MX-5 Implantat)

Rorqual Bonus:
Rorqual Bonus = Mining laser optimiziation II bonus*(1+0,2*Mining Director Skill)*(1+Miningforeman Mindlink Bonus)*(1+0,1*Warfare Link Specialist Skill)*(1+0,1*Capital Industrial Ships)
Rorqual Bonus = 0.075*(1+0.2*5)*(1+0.25)*(1+0.1*5)*(1+0.1*5)=
Rorqual Bonus = 0.42

Cycle Time:
Skiff Cycle time = base time * (1-0,02*Mining Barge Skill)*(1-0,02*Exhumer Skill) * (1 - Roqual Bonus)
Skiff Cycle time = 180s * (1-0.02*5)*(1-0.02*5)*(1-0.42)
Skiff Cycle time=84,29s

Mercoxit:
Skiff effective mining amount = 250*(1.375)*(1+1.5)*(1+0.05*5)*(1+0.05*5)*(1+0.295)*(1+0.05)
Skiff effective mining amount = 2100

with Medium Mercoxit Crystal Optimization I:
Mercoxit mining amount  = Skiff effective mining amount * (1+0,16)
Mercoxit mining amount  = 2436
Mercoxit mining amount rounded down to a multiple of 40m3 = 2400

Bistot:
Skiff effective mining amount = 360*(1.75)*(1+1.5)*(1+0.05*5)*(1+0.05*5)*(1+0.295)
Skiff effective mining amount = 3848

Bistot m3 per hour = (Skiff effective mining amount)*(60seconds)*(60*minutes)/(Skiff Cycle time)
Bistot m3 per hour = 3848 * 60 * 60 / 84.29
Bistot m3 per hour = 164,346m3
fuzzwork Bistot ISK per hour = ( Bistot m3 per hour ) * 665.2
Bistot ISK per hour = 109.322.959 ISK * (reprocessing factor in highsec 0.72)
Bistot ISK per hour = 78.712.530.624

Mercoxit m3 per hour = 2400 * 60 * 60 / 84.29
Mercoxit m3 per hour = 102,503 m3
fuzzwork Mercoxit ISK per hour = ( Mercoxit m3 per hour ) * 974.14
Mercoxit ISK per hour = 99,852,528.17 * (reprocessing factor in highsec 0.72)
Mercoxit ISK per hour = 71,893,820
