Choosing a side in the CalGal conflict

I've been playing EVE for a few years now, spending the bulk of my time living in wormholes, with the rest of my time spent missioning, exploring and mining in the Caldari hisec regions. I've decided that I'd like to give Faction Warfare a try but I'm having trouble deciding which side of the conflict to join.

My main motivation is getting some 1v1 and small gang PvP, but I can't deny that big stacks of LP certainly don't hurt either. I plan to start out plexing and roaming, eventually maybe doing some L4s when I have the standing. As I mentioned, I've spent most of my EVE life in Caldari space, so a change of scenery in Gallente space might be nice, but I understand also that systems regularly flip so it's easily possible that I'd be docking at a Caldari-held station in Gallente space, or vice versa based on the side I choose. The character I'll be using flies Gallente ships, but I will be crosstraining him into first Caldari, then all races of ships. I'm also not too concerned about getting things to and from the market as I'll be taking care of that with an alt.

Any suggestions or advice to help me decide?

I've been on the Caldari side having entered FW a week ago-

Firstly, you can use whatever ship you like. I know lore-wise it would be nice to only fly Caldari ships, but I've been using both those and Gallente, and I've seen people on both side in ships of all races.

As far as space goes - I'm with a FW corp that's allied with Brave Newbies, so I'm staging out of Aunsou, which is currently two jumps from Gallente controlled FW space. It means I can't dock when I go into FW space, but also means that plexes and enemy fleets are right on my doorstep - perfect for getting fights without flying halfway across the region.

The Militia on both sides, I imagine, are fairly similar player-wise. Everytime I've logged in I've seen fleets going up, plenty of chat, sharing kills etc.

Ultimately I don't think it matters too much which side you pick. Maybe if you have better standing with Caldari and want to run missions with them in the future, it would make sense to pick them. But otherwise - go with whatever.

The Gallente militia are currently the stronger group in the warzone, and have held a greater share of systems for a while. However the Caldari can mostly hold their own, and have successfully defended against two large Gallente offensives in the last 6 months.

Assuming you have no preferences from a lore standpoint:

- Join Gallente if you want to be in the currently dominant faction and have an easier time winning.
- Join Caldari if you want to fight for the underdog and have a greater challenge (also our lvl 4 missions are easier).

Obviously my opinion is biased but I'd say that joining a dominant group, after they've already achieved dominance, is pretty boring. I spent some time in The Imperium recently and its the same deal.

Having said that, both sides have good dudes to fly with, and you could do a lot worse than joining either side of the cal/gal conflict.

The only conflict in FW is that between those that play FW for some reason and those that farm plexs 16 hours a day.

Just find a good corp that suits you. It really doesn't matter which faction you join, what's important is the corp you join. By the way, join a player corp and DO NOT JOIN the NPC corp.

Ok, so camping Villore to get free kills is what Heiian Conglomerate calling "greater challenge". Nice to know.

I just started to fly into cal/gal war zone, but in amarr/minmatar warzone it really does not matter which side you pick. If you fly solo - you will be fighting pirates. On the plus side - you do not need to wait for a fight more than a few minutes . On the other side - they will always come in the ships or numbers, which will remove any hope for a fair fight.

If CalMil is known for anything, it is our ability to forgive and forget honest mistakes and mild transgressions.
