Help with Caldari character background.

When I first made this character I didn't really have much in mind. The name itself is not even canon, coming from a fictional language in a different universe.

I liked the Civire for their strength of mind and will, as well as for their sense of propriety. The seem to hold the world to a high standard and themselves most of all. I chose the 'Dissenters' lineage because I did not want to play a combat-oriented Merc or a market-focused Entrepreneur (though, in retrospect maybe that would have been the better choice). Looking into Source now I wonder how to make work a character that is at once loyal to the Caldari as a whole while still an unwelcome critical voice. Caldari seem too frown on this heavily.

I asked a couple people I know who still play, and some said I could focus on working into the Liberal ideology while another said that a Patriot reformer was also possible.

Right now I'm playing as a Hyasyoda citizen specializing in materials acquisition and distribution, fairly low-level and not very sophisticated. They as a corp are said in Source to be very traditional, and I was thinking to use that angle to make a character who is very invested in the traditional Caldari way of life but who thinks political policy is lagging behind economic forces. I want her to feel that the war with the Gallente went on for too long and the decision to ally with the Amarr was too hasty. That the Caldari should work harder at being the people that they are and that prosperity and security will follow, which admittedly is naive. She is Civire after all, and not Deteis.

Does this sound like a Liberal or a Patriot? Is working for Hyasyoda a mistake, given the direction I was aiming? Please reply if you have criticism or advice, thanks.

This is exactly what liberal-caldari-special-snowflakes are.

As a capsuleer, you are rather independent, so changing a corp should not be a great issue. I suggest you study caste system of Caldari, especially Disassociated and non-class.

Hyasyoda has got to be my favorite 'Liberal' Mega and your character descript fits them fairly well. I had a lot of trouble when I started out as well, though I entered my current character with RP in mind. Its interesting to note that Hyasyoda, being one of the first Caldari corporations to be formed, isnt Liberal like Ishukone (or not like they are portrayed in the books). Liberal describes their economic policy, which is pretty much the only thing that makes them Liberal, other wise they would fit nicely with the other Patriots.

Personally, id like to see another Hyasyoda pilot flying around :)

I'm not sure I understand the first statement. After your recommendation, I read the Demographics wiki and that was excellent at clearing some things up. Very good recommendation, thank you.

I appreciate this perspective on Hyasyoda. I was feeling a disconnect between the traditionalism and liberalism, which you solved nicely in your summation.

Given these updates, I am more comfortable with rolling as a Hyasyoda citizen. Her parents were likely crewmates of the Technician caste, doing more or less what she is doing now. She received the same specialized training they did in fields such as chemistry, astrogeology, and basic engineering. Same as other pilots.

I think her dissenter nature will most likely manifest in the criticisms of Practicals megacorps, particularly the Chief Executive caste. She will view the cartel-like managment structure as an affront to meritocratic values. I think I will take the advice here and borrow from the Patriots a bit on domestic social views while borrowing from the Liberal economic viewpoint.

Thanks very much again to you both.
