Vanishing buy orders

This has happened several time recently:

I find an incredibly lucrative buy order on the market.
I manufacture the required item.
When I try to sell the item, the buy order vanishes, at the moment of sale.
And, a message is displayed about the broker being unable to find a matching offer.

I think, someone out there, has either found an exploit or hack or something.....

Margin trading skill allows you to place an order without having the isk to fill it. Hence when you try to fill it it disapears. Many scams use that technique. (It's also very useful for legitimate tading).

ps.
Mechnics of that are a bit more complicated so feel free to pop in scc-lounge and ask the scoundrels within.

Did you happen to fall for one of those scams that keeps getting advertised in Jita lately?

The one where the scammer buys up a bunch of cheap officer modules, relist at a much higher price, and then place a margin buy order at even higher prices?

As soon as you buy the officer modules and try to sell them to the buy order (which has a minimum quantity of 3), the buy order disappears.

If you can build these items, then just put them up for half price of what he's offering, or some reasonable number for what it was going for before vs what he has it up for.

That way HE is forced to either take down the scam or buy you out. After he buys out your few mods and you do it again, he'll get smart. But you just made money off of a scammer.

I think the OP got scammed =P I might be wrong.

Because this kind of stuff is hard to do with manufactured items. It has to be rare items that do not have a steady supply.

Yep, officer mods are the main one.

I believe long build time items that aren't in wide circulation could work too, such as bad tech 2 capital rigs. These, however, are more expensive to acquire than bad officer modules.

I have seen this myself with just your standard t1 items, mostly ship hulls.

Op if your trying to dump the market, just keep selling to the buy orders if your mass manufacturing eventually it will go through, and dumping enough in some categories screws with the 0.01's a bit and wrecks the market for a while in that category.
