Grinding SS back

I have a toon at -5.5 SS...

Apart from ratting, is there a better way of gaining SS? (i suppose not)

Is it true that SS only goes up in 10-15 min interval considering the best rat you've killed?

Would be a Drake a good ratter in 0.0 ? (i suppose yes)

What fit do you recommend for it?

Thanks.

This basically. Fit a hound out with torps/painter/MSE/cloak/MWD and go to Great Wildlands - its mostly empty anyway.

Find a quiet pipe/loop, maybe 5-6 systems, shoot one battleship in each system, jump to next system, rinse repeat until you have a shiny new sec status or have died of boredom. Up to you if you can be arsed to loot, I don't bother. There's maybe 2 Angel frigates that scram so its risk-free unless you fall asleep (it happens).

Sounds about right, can't really remember TBH. Google will probably give you a site with all the npc rat stats. Edit - it is only 2 frigates, I remember that Big smile

Best rat killed per system per 15 minutes.

This is why it's good to get a loop of systems and warp to belts and find one BS rat, kill it and move on to the next system in your loop.

EDIT: Step 3 above is very accurate, I've just given up on staying above -5.

WTF.

The answer is nope I'm sorry about that...

Kill one battleship sized rat then move a system over. Rince and repeat. Kill a BS then move on. Make sure the first thing you kill is a BS.

This is the quickest way back up. It's always a grind... :s

It knows what you think.

If you have friends you can get close to the .0.0 ratting sec improvement by mission sharing in low sec.

It feels a bit better having other people suffer along with you and some of the L4
missions have very tasty BS to be farmed....

Wrong. These are Angel belt rats we're talking about and there ARE only 2 of those which scram. We're not talking about mission/complex/deadspace rats, we're not talking about Serpentis, Guristas or any other faction, just Angel belt rats.

Edit - its the Arch Angel/Gistii Outlaw and Arch Angel/Gistii Thug which scram. That's all.

People are giving you bad advice. High sec is the fastest and safest place to grind sec status.

Read this Thread.

Hell, give it a bump if you find it useful. I am all for misbehavior in highsec.

Well, this is my first time having to grind up SS. This is my first time having to rat. So bear with me. I've only known the basic theory, but never had to apply it. :P

I'm already at 0,0 with a SB poping BS's from system to system. I've already gained 0.5 SS, yay! But at the speed it goes, i think i'll head to empire the moment i reach -1.99, i don't have patience to wait for 0.0 SS ... Ugh

@Herr Wilkus:

Your post was very insightful, Although i have access to LVL4 missions in Caldari space (near where i am ATM) i'm not sure if i can step so easily with a BC, in highsec, to do some missions... I don't know exactly how the mechanics of the 'police' work, but i know that i can't loiter in highsec because i'll get poped by the 'police'. The warning that appears whenever i enter highsec seems good enough to GTFO. Some weeks ago i traveled with a Vexor trhu 4 highsec systems and in one gate, while aligning i almost got killed :S

But if this only happens at the gates, seems good advice. Now that i'm -4.90 something, i think i'm not KOS anymore, am i right ?

PS: Happy new year BTW. :)

Your still KOS at -4.9, it depends on the security status of the system. If you get above -4.5 you can enter 0.5, I believe. Above -4.0 and you can enter 0.6, and so on.

I guess in the thread posted above the guy is either doing missions in 0.4 or below or his sec is high enough that he can enter the high sec systems his agents are in (say a 0.8 system, and he has -2.8 sec status).

I'm doing what your doing now, ratting system by system in an stealth bomber, and although it is relatively slow, its not too painful. You get about 0.03-0.04 sec increase depending on the battleship type, which I think works out at a bit less then 35 kills per 1.0 increase, and thats assuming its 35 0.03 kills, which is never the case.

Its just a case of how fast you can go/how bored you get!

I was only talking about belt rats. And I'm pretty sure all the frigs with 24k+ bounty are the elite frigs (or however they are called) which can scram you.
Because I never remember the exact name I only look for the bounty to check if I will be in danger of getting scrammed (or webbed which is actually more dangerous in a SB).

OP has a -5.5 sec status, and you suggest moving to hisec to rat. lolol

OP, do as others have said. Just kill a BS in a system then move to another system. Rinse and repeat as much as required.

A drake is a good ship for nulsec ratting. But it will likely get killed as a soon as you run into anything pvp fit. If your sole purpose is to gain sec status, the bomber method is much safer, and it costs less than your standard T2 fit Drake.

"Pretty sure" in this instance = totally wrong.

"Elite frigates" ARE the arch angels. As stated only two of them SCRAM you. The only thing you are concerned about when ratting in a bomber is scrams, not points as nothing else is going to kill you before you warp off.

It won't be any quicker in Empire. It'll still take you the same amount of time to switch systems and kill the BS rat and if you don't do that then it will take longer to grind sec standing back.

Also remember that the nearer you get to +5 sec standing, the less standing you get per npc kill. Its done on a percentage basis from -10 to +5.

I've had to do this a few times, and found it far more entertaining to do in a BC. Just plan out a large roam in 0.0 and kill a rat every system. Definitely not the safest way to do it, but you have a chance of getting some pvp action along the way.
