Why i am still optimistic about eve

Or.. how i fight off bitter vet.

First allow me to introduce myself. I am DaReaper (hi!) 11.5 year eve player, leader of two failed alliances, former hs, ls (anti pirate) null sec and curently wh player. Primarily an industrialist and i find 'fun' what others find borning. And one of the worst pvpers in eve (seriously look me up, i'm horrible)

With that said, i feel there is way too much random doom and gloom, so i figured that i could do a semi positive post. IMO eve is in a 'repair and establish' phase. This phases started in 2012 and is still on going. Its a dull phase, but one that has been negelected for far too long. Yes pcu is low, but i don;t really see this as an issue, and here is why. IMO by the end of 2016, eve if the vaporware that will not be named comes out, eve will start to have a rebound. The reaosn is, they will be ready, by the end of 2016 for brand new stuff. (maybe) So lets discuss things that currently make me happy about eve:

1) Fozzie sov. It is far too early to tell if fozzie sov will fail or not, players are trolling cause they an, fights for space are not happening cause either troll no shows or owners don;t really give a **** about there space.. or a combination of both. Eventually some of these people will lose space and people who want to own space will. This shoudl start causing fights. Also, i keep seeing people still using old tactics and claiming fozzie sov is slow and dull.. well no ****. If you are treating it like a pos bash yea it will be slow.

So eventually the thinking will shift and we will have a better picture. In addition, ccp is suppose to be able to easily make tweeks, and with the current shorter release shoudl be able to quickly. This should be able to improve fozzie sov.. but as this is ccp.. we will see.

2) Jump Fatigue: There is an old saying "Be careful what you wish for, or you might get it" Thats what happend when you whine about force projection. Why i think its a good thing is three fold: a) caps have not been revamped yet, so we have no idea if it will make the life of a cap pilot much better long term. b) force projection was bad and c) sov ohase 3 (some say already came i disagree) could make jump fatnge a non issue..

3) Sov phase 3. Phase 3 is suppose to be the big null sec buff. I disagree that anom buff we just got was that. And i feel a bigger one is on the way. But we will see.

4) The death of the pos. This has me STUPID excited. Citadels and new structures i am thrilled about. And am itching for them. The day the patch notes say 'the control towers are gone' is the day i unload every firework i have in jita. I can;t WAIT

5) Drifter storyline: Peopled whined about no content.. and for 8 months, since Carolines star, we have had a trickle of content. "But thats not what i ment" oh well. The story line is interesting, inspiring, and captivating. I am looking and following lore for the first tim in my 11 years here. And there is a TON of potential to all the new stuff that can come from the drifter storyline. It hase me excaited.

And finally... 6) CCP Seagull. yea... how can you NOT be happy about eve's future when you hear her talk? I love our gigglely EP, and am happy that eve is in her hands.

There is more, but i typed enough. Thanks for reading if you got this far

Might just be because you're a nice guy who isn't all that irate and has an eye on what's going on more broadly.

Don't take it personally if other people don't. Your comments and attitude aren't invisible btw.

Thanks for the optimistic post in an era of doom and gloom. I hope you're right and I agree that CCP is doing a lot of things right. I'm just not sure that there is someone at Eve that can come up with Big ideas that will really move the game forward. It feels more like housekeeping going on.

I've only been around for a couple of years but I wonder if there is anyone at CCP who can come up with ideas like Wormholes or Faction Warfare. Ideas that will bring people back to the game.

There is so much emphasis on NPE lately. Probably a good thing, but I think a bit of a red herring. Eve experienced phenomenal periods of growth in the past under the old NPE, so I'm not sure it's the holy grail to get Eve growing again. I think that will require aspects of game play that entice a new player to embrace the learning curve for the payoff of what they will be able to do someday and get bittervets and content generators to log into the game again.

Maybe player created stargates, and what it enables, will be that catalyst.

Nice post. I agree in a lot of ways its too early to tell if itll work or not. Yeah it feels like a lot of upkeep atm but it makes sense to shore up the old stuff, get it out of the way to pave the way for new stuff, especially to keep it all balanced. I just think that this upkeep shouldve happened a few years ago but I also realize that the negative noise made by the masses was too much at the time to do so properly. And the PCU is reflective of that upkeep as well.

I too think that Eve is far from dead or dying, and the only way to know if itll be a hit or a fail is to know more of what CCP has planned. Which is something they shouldnt reveal as that is a double edged sword. Theres really so much potential here for changes or advancements. I know it comes down to money and development of actual gameplay that works, not just pie in the sky dreams.

So Im like you on that front. Tentatively optimistic of the possibilities.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

New players? You're kidding right. With CCP constant updating (*cough* NERFING *cough*), they've made the game almost impossible for new players to grasp. There will be very little growth in new players from here on out unless CCP reduce the updates from 7-8 currently, down to 3-4.

Also the rapid updates appear to be causing server instability as many witness earlier this month.

What are the problems with current update cycle for newbies and what are those nerfs that affect them, in your opinion?

Phase 3 isn't actually happening. Nothing like Phase 1 & 2. There will be a few "tweaks" and they are adding more Null Sec anomolies. That is it.
After that they move onto structures and I think that is being handled by another team.
