Named Drifter is a **** Move

Alright. I knew that if you killed enough circadian seekers, a drifter battleship could come in. I've ran into them before and they never warp scrambled and webbed. (High sec.) So I see 3 seekers, kill them, and get webbed and scrambled in my Rattlesnake on a way to Guristas Extravaganza. I am beyond disheartened. When was this update put in? Sounds like Seekers aren't even worth the effort anymore without a fleet, since their loot is ******* garbage on price these days. Great. I love loosing a billion ISK. The named NPC even destroyed my wreck and Gecko.

I know this is gonna sound like a BS answer, but what has happened to you is kind of the point. CCP is purposely keeping a tight lip about Drifter and Circadian Seeker capabilities because they are suppose to be a big mystery. And they were never meant to be something to shot at for loot or monetary gain either. Like NPC industrials, they're not going to drop anything of value or have anything like a bounty or lp payout for killing them. They serve merely as a lore distraction for us and "live-fire" test bed for CCP to try on a new A.I.

Best to right click on them and remove from overview and forget that they are there. They didn't have teeth before, now they have some pretty nasty canines. Leave them alone, and they will leave you alone in kind, just don't linger around their structures either. They hate getting visitors near their towers.

I sympathize with you to find this out the hard way, but the best I can offer you is try petitioning for it and see if CCP will return the favor...not likely though.

Sorry for your loss. I guess you learned the hard way not to shoot Seekers.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

What really gets me is that the NPC shot the wreck. My Deadspace SB survived the ship loss, but nope. Shot.

Wait until they start podding.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Iirc they already pod. Them shooting wrecks is news to me. I wasn't aware they pointed you other then when they were going to dd you, either. Been awhile since I've tangled with them as I have no desire to farm them with a 3 billion isk fit, get low standings and then always look over my shoulders.

I suppose op forget that eve is about consequences and this was a harsh reminder. Either way rattlesnakes are as cheap as chips. Op probably already has it replaced.

Tinfoil time: what are the odds when this storyline unfolds and they make a serious push into amarr space ccp finally let's capitals in high sec? They posted a plan somewhere that the drifter war is going to destroy npc high sec and that players will be able to bargain with concord to turn areas into high sec. It's all part of their plan to put the universe more into player hands. Otherwise fighting differs in highs high sec will involve either expensive fits or sacrificial ships to eat their dd.

Edit: never mind it was just an interesting article on cz. http://crossingzebras.com/the-decline-of-empire-space/

Shooting seekers in your shiny mission boat. Why would you do that??

Podding confirmed. There only 62 out of ~4,000 kills though, so I am fairly certain you need to be afk or log off in space with a timer to get podded.

are you sure the drifter shot the wreck? I would guess some player came by and looted/salvaged it.

I'm not sure which part is worse, Guristas Extra, Rattlesnake, or shooting the worthless npcs. Its like three strikes in a row

Yep, my ship wrecked, then I heard another explosion sound, and noticed my wreck was gone from the list on the right. (Yeah I show wrecks. I salvage a lot and am lazy about making another tab since I don't do many fleet ops.) There was no other players around, as it was very late.

Considering they already had out of the box dynamic ROE and could pod players, they are already light years ahead of the current generic AI -- or any Eve has had for that matter -- I'm not really surprised. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they see players dropping deployables and thinking, "Oh, really? I'll shoot that, too, if you wanna play games, player." Maybe at some point, Drifter caps might show up, then we are all really f'ed.

Edit: just looked at the killboard; Yep, one MTU so far. Lol

I wish they'd put this AI in every other rat too. Drifters are just amazing with their AI. Sansha incursion rats aren't half bad either. It would make PvE a lot of fun in Eve instead of just 'farming' those sites.

Certainly hope so. This AI humanizes the rats far more so than the generic AI they run with, making them feel less robotic. It would help bridge that massive gap between PVP and PVE in terms of opponent behavior, making expected outcomes a little less predictable and more enjoyable even, and helps to keep us on our toes and prevent bad habits and complacency. I can only imagine how many times people have ran complexes and missions, then hopped into something for PVP and forget that players don't follow the same rules or act that way. Maybe that's just my mindset, but I can't be the only one. I still find it cool that they properly use escalation of force. There is a lot of potential here and CCP could be on to something. Looking forward to the AI overhaul, Soon™.

^ Yes, perhaps this is CCP's way of beta-testing new AI. It should make PVE much more interesting.

TBH I am not overly impressed by the AI at all. In essence the NPCs still fly to a certain range and orbit their target. The only really noticeable behaviour that I see is that they sometimes switch targets and that they target drones like crazy.

To me, 90% of the "AI" buff is that the ships have totally overpowered weaponry compared to the other NPCs, and that's why they are scary, not the AI changes. I guess putting that AI on regular rats would have almost no discernible effect.

imo npc ai is a gimmicky attempt to mimic player actions. Players seem to be able to react quickly and come up with some even more gimmicky fits, and when that doesn't work it is trivial to bring overwhelming force.

Yeah if this is some new AI they'd put into PVE missions, missioning is dead. If they shoot wrecks great, you've got nothing to loot or salvage. 40-60+% of the ISK from level 4s sometimes comes from loot and salvage.

Dear sir, here is where you are quite wrong.
They make missions like that (more exciting, dangerous, unpredictable) - pilots will find that content atractive.
Example - playing chess vs. watching the same movie all over again, surely the chess game is more exciting as it is not that predictable compared to watching the exact same movie for the 103rd time.

If 40-60% of your income from missions is loot and salvage - i must say you are doing it wrong or missioning for a corporation with a pisspoor LP store.

If CCP adds new content - they don't have to remove the old, so you will still be able to watch your movie - while the rest play chess.
