What are "advanced" drones

The skill books for the XX Drone Specialization reads, "...bonus to advanced XX drone damage..."

I can find no reference to the word "advanced" in any of the drone descriptions. Is this refering to tech II drones (i.e Hornet II or Vespa II)? Or is this meaning Heavy Scout drones (i.e. Ogre, Wasp)? Or, the fighter-level drones?

THANKS!

I do believe "advanced" is a reference to Tech II drones.

It is indeed T2 drones.

There are also some quite expensive faction drones too.

If you look at the requirements for T2 drones you'll see that they need [Faction] specialization to be used.

Augmented, to be specific. Both Augmented and T2 benefit from the spec skill. T1, integrated, and faction drones do not. Neither do sentries of any type; they are linked to Sentry Drone Interfacing instead.

Spot on.

And since the OP mentioned them..

Even though they are listed in the "Combat Drone" tree, Fighters & Fighter Bombers aren't true drones. They're supposedly manned spacecraft. So their dps is only affected by the Fighter & Fighter Bomber skills respectively (as well as ship bonuses ofc).

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Not to hijack, but does this also mean that fighters / fighter bombers are unaffected by drone support skills, such as drone navigation, durability, etc.?

^^ Those.

In a wonderful case of circular logic, the “advanced drones” referenced in the drone spec skills are the drones that require the drone spec skill in question. It might as well have said “provides a bonus to drones that use this skill”, because that's exactly how the skill works.

Any drone that has a specialisation skill as one of its prerequisites gets bonuses from that skill; any drone that hasn't, doesn't.
