Bought myself a heron quickly fitted it with cheap and cheerful gear and off i went, teamed up with an ingame buddy who found an unstable wormhole almost straight away popped into that and ended up in some J***** system about 2 million jumps from my nearest assett, been my 1st time in a wormhole i did not want to get trapped so i went back through it lol (chicken), anyway i then found some drone site and like a fool got too close to them and was almost podded.
now my heron had no gun or shield, so i had to warp like hell out of there lol...run away llive to fight another day...... so i docked and loaded all my probing gear into a cormorant hoping to be abit more protected, however i did not have enough power to fit a missile launcher.

So reading the above escapade which road should i take? back into the heron and keep my distance or use another ship with more firepower and shield? i have a few ships at my disposal but am stilll fairly new so isk is still limited.

many thanks.

Build two ships, each for its specific role. You can undock and stop power right outside the station docks in highsec to launch your probes and scan the system. Once you have bookmarked all your 100% targets, simply retrieve probes and dock up instantly to swap out for your combat vessel.

This scenario is why many explorers train for T3 cruisers. So we can scan and clear sites in a single ship. They are pricey though, so two ships is usually how most will start off.

The cruiser ship you are looking for is the Arbitrator.

I used that ship to run many combat sites in high sec.

Drones do your damage, while the slots on your ship are fitted for support and exploration modules

Don't forget to include 1 probe launcher and some probes also in your combat ship, or you will not be able to get back if wormhole collapses while you are there.

Although it has no bonus, Cane is a good all-purpose exploration ship until T3.

well a day spent scanning, quite easy once you get the hang of it....am sick to death of finding unstable wormholes :(. been in the early stages of exploration should i bother to actually explore these or just leave them and seek easier pickings?

you can always hop through and see what it is -- flying solo, you *should* be able to run C1 sites pretty easily, and maybe C2.
