Just wondering whether I should put shields or armour on my Cormorant.

It's equipped with rail guns w/ infrared ammo and I intend to use it for faction wars if that makes any difference.

EDIT: Also, how much ammunition can I expect my Gatling Pulse Laser I to use? It costs a lot more than other ammo types.

Oh my.

Cormerant needs hybrids (railguns or blasters)

The coercer uses lazers.

Are you sure you have the right guns on the correct ship or is this a typo?

I've seen you post little replies like this in other topics. Do you come on here just to troll or do you actually help someone out every now and then?

Yeah, you need to read the bonuses on the hull and fit a weapon system it actually has a bonus to.
Which in this case would be small blasters or railguns

Shield tank in the mid slots

And damage Mods in the lows.

Wow! That fit is horrible!

Fitting a ship in EVE is an art form. There is no right way to do it but there are lots of "pretty close" ways and countless ways to botch a fit, free for everyone to ridicule. And if you are caught dead and exploded with a bad fit, it will haunt you for the rest of your EVE career!

Now, I see you are using a Caldari destroyer. Caldari ships use mainly Shields as their defense system (a.k.a. Tank), and either Rail Guns or Missiles as their main weapons, as determined by their Hull bonuses. Each race has a favoured theme or weapons, and a few factions mix them around.

If you are fitting a ship without taking into account the ship bonuses and roles, you are doing it wrong and should be ashamed! For shame! Fitting laser pewpew beams to a Cormorant is a sin.

Now do yourself a favour and educate yourself:

Reading is an important part of getting a clue on how fittings work, and the more you read the more of a clue you get. And to to you started, here's a tip. Destroyer ships are fickle and meant to volley your target with holes and pray they don't do the same to you.

Good luck!

That 'thing' constitutes naught more than a crime against my beloved Cormorant!

Thanks mate :)

To those who posted helpful comments, I really appreciate it. I'm a fairly new player (only been playing for a few weeks) so it's great to have the more experienced players helping out. Thanks again :)

Range is your tank in a cormorant. Hit stuff from 100km and if they can hit you back, bail. If they can't, you keep annoying them for all eternity until their shields break and they warp off and then come back. If you have tacklers putting points on your targets you might kill stuff but alone you'll probably just be annoying (which admittedly is some times more fun than killing stuff).

Although sometimes bone headed guys might let you kill them in their worms ;D

If you're flying a cormorant as a blaster brawler... idk, you might get extra damage or utility out of the range bonus but I'm not sure it would make you more functional in that role than another ship like a catalyst or thrasher or corax or really any other dessie.
