One big drone instead of five little drones would be a relief to my overview and targeting and possibly provide clearer tactical choices. A "light" big drone could have 25 bandwidth, medium is 50 and large 125. The little drones could stay for ships that have less than 25 bandwidth or if you just like to fill people's overviews.

Even better IMHO would be an entirely new system for controlling your single good drone that doesn't involve clicking through a bunch more windows in a game that already suffers from requiring you to have too many windows open. This UI streamlining would not work well with 5 distinct drones to juggle but could be managed with hotkeys and icons when you only have one drone.

The strategic options of drones could also be expanded when you have one large drone if the drone had a one-off effect and after you use it, it has to return to your ship and reload. At that point EVE ships would have "cool-down" abilities they can use and which can be countered by attacking the drone before it uses its special ability, instead of straight pewpewpew.

How about the Algos and it's 35 bandwidth? Caracal with 10? Maulus with 20? Didn't think this through did we? Kind of like the "T2 is a barrier to entry bla bla bla" thread.

How are 5 drones being taxing to your overview?
I personally prefer the 5 drones because, sometimes, one gets eaten even though I'm drawing aggro from the primary (NPC) target.

As to the clear tactical choices, how is that so?
At present, if I happen to be mining (a rarity these days), I can tactically fly a mix of ECM and light drones.

I think another problem would be in like solo pvp, if you're killing off drones the dps doesn't gradually decrease, it'd be effectively killing another ship just to half the other's dps. The thing with 5 drones, is lets say you kill one, and they don't have any spares, now they're dealing only 80% damage, so you'll start to last longer, and then once you kill the 2nd 60% damage and so forth, so that the more drones you kill the easier it is to survive to see the next drone dead. But with one big drone, it'd basically have the hp of another frigate and the dps wouldn't decrease the more you shoot it, so why would you shoot it unless you're being kited to death, where you're practically dead at that point anyway?

It is having them be a group off small things that makes fighting them distinct from fighting ships. Why do so many people want to make all weapons just like the other ones only with different names? We had someone wanting to remove the distinctive bits from missiles the other day too.
