Destroy myself and there is no longer a "me" for him to take anything away from.

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

Well, this is the third time I post this Question, and not unexpectedly EVE's OOP has provided the most bizarre answers, with exactly one person getting the intent and the rest of answers fiddling around trolling.

On the other two sites, people moved between negotiation (they SHOULD be able to save more than ONE) or anger (it is UNFAIR to be requested to give up everything you love but one thing) and many other concluded that the only answer for a person with a family was to save his family, and a lonely person would just save his beloved one (but not if they had children, that is, a family).

Also there were those who dindn't understand the question, and a few trolls. But nothing like OOPE levels.

(Admittedly, it's the first time I present the Question in English so maybe something has been lost in translation).

One sees it as trolling while the other just views it as an answer out of the box. As the saying goes, "give the devil an inch and he'll be your ruler." Thus frankly, there is no right answer within the list, it's a lose all proposition. With good intention, that's my answer to any entity dropping me the short list.
Now about that bridge I'm selling ;)

Pleased to meet you hope you've guessed my name.

edit: it's not your list, it's probably your question. How about: if your house were burning down and you only had time to save one thing or person/s. Maybe provide a list of things. Then you don't wind up crashing into something already predefined like teh debil (sort of removes credibility to the intention of the question).

Even the list, it can be items associated with this list. Like an irreplaceable locket of your love one or of a long lost loved one etc. Items of association to your list, not necessarily real items. I mean if you are actually trying to determine a persons value to an object, person or ideal, rather than just making a joke as some would (not necessarily you). In other words taking the readers focus off of the question and to the list. Let the list be profound rather than the question, I think you would receive better results.

Or maybe not even your house, maybe a (e.g.) rental vacation cottage on some wonderful tropical island beach where the reader is not profoundly pondering the loss of their own rl house or whatever, just focusing on the list.

I'm in it for the money
