Ok fellas, so in our haste to expand the Thunderdome contest to more pilots, we have overlooked a serious timezone issue. lmmortalist is six hours ahead of his first matchup. Ill need to adjust future brackets according to TZ availability for the first few matches (obviously the latter ones will be sorted by win/lose stats).

For now, we have a number of pilots who havent fought their first matchup.

Is anyone EU timezone that can swap with Heknai and face Immortalist?? Mail me or post up if you can make the swap, and ill adjust the matches accordingly. This is only if you havent already competed in round 1.

To be honest, my appreciation for this event has only increased after having only tried once so far. There is a certain 'rock, paper, scissors' aspect to it, but that's how it goes. I learned stuff. Most importantly I learned what mistakes I made and how not to make them again. Pilot error killed me fast. I needed range against Tengu's fit and I failed to go for it immediately. No excuses. I look forward to improving more in the loser's bracket.

I wanted to say something insightful and witty about out battle, but watching the video it's very clear where it went wrong for Omar. The fact was his fit quite likely if not definitely would have beaten me if he had managed to maintain the engagement range he wanted. It would have been on me to out pilot him in order to have a hope of beating him. My fit was such that I was able to capitalize on his mistake with deadly effectiveness.

I would be very interested to repeat that battle in the future and see how it would turn out. I know for a fact it would have at least been a lot closer than it was, or potentially gone in the complete other direction.

He made one critical mistake and it cost him the match. That's Eve though, and it's really what I'm loving about these thunderdomes, making those mistakes and thinking "whelp, not doing that again."

gf Omar, till next time.

This is the most important thing that I've learned from these matches. Align the strengths and weaknesses of your fit such that if your opponent tries to take advantage of the latter, you can apply the former.

If you're unable to engage kiters, pack long or strong webs like you did.
If you can't fit a strong tank, fit for speed and dictate range like I did with my Orthrus*.
etc.

I am becoming more and more convinced that even "bad" ships, if fit and flown properly, are completely useable. I plan to test this in the BC round.

*(Side note, this is why I think the Gila is so heavily OP in scenarios like this: it can easily perma-run a MWD and sport a stiff tank and apply excellent DPS all at the same time. The only thing keeping it from being completely broken is drone travel time.)

If theres gonna be a swap it would be optimal to do it now, since I've basically had a whole week being able to do nothing but computer games (pretty terrible tbh) and starting this sunday I will be going back to work and other real life meetings. Today and tomorrow I still have nothing planned so let me know if theres anyone who could fight. Everything but the very middle of the night goes fine for me.

Ok, so I swapped out the brackets and fought Immortalist seeing as how Heknai and him were having TZ issues.

Congrats to his win!

Ill have the vid up as soon as I figure out how to do all the cool things Bronson does with his.

Brief description:

My first time flying an Oruthus. (Hey, thats why we are here, right?) I figured that I would have plenty of damage application with RLM's and packed a target painter with me in case I ran into a drone boat. Anyone who looks at the KM will see I packed auto-targeters in my cargo, just in case my opponent pulled a Leto and brought jams. My fit was setup for kiting, obviously, but I DID NOT NOTICE THE INCREDIBLY SHORT target locking range of 62KM before it was waaaaay too late. He had me using my shield charges before I could even get a lock.

Oh, and I made sure to pack a cargo hold full of drugs that I forgot to use.

I look forward to facing Ralph in the first round loser bracket!

One thing that later on made me feel stupid is that I didn't notice the absence of your hardeners, meaning I should've used those mjolnirs after all against the 0% resists. Oh well, such is life and I actually got a few sweet ship ideas for the upcoming matches from that one.

Come rain, shine or locusts, I am definitely up for the next one.

Also, this is the only active thread that isn't delivering luke warm vom in C&P at the moment. You should be proud of this.

I was having a cigarette (because I'm street and hip and whatnot) in the car park earlier and I overheard these guys chatting about EvE. Apparently they're in [alliance name removed] and if I want to join their small corp I'm welcome. I, of course, have never played before and was enchanted by their stories of space richness.

Luckily my contract is temporary.
