For the love of God, CCP please just kill all SOV mechanics and let the players work it out. Kill SOV or you kill the game. I'm seeing sub 15K logged in and I got people running missions un-molested with 2 wardecs going.

Summertime used to be full of epic because people had time to screw around. Now it's practically dead out there. Even the gankers are not seen much these days.

You should swing by the Optometrist for a checkup, mate. There are 29000+ logged in.

Because it's easyer to code that way and it's not like being in an alliance is a large requirement...

I'm not logged in all day. I play in PST at night and have seen a significant drop.

Or maybe the leftoids in PST have decided to all go live in a commune out in the woods or something. I don't know.

You mean only the spike, I could say there are more than 60 000 logged in, even bigger number, but its in a span of whole day. P You see what I did there.

And we are at year 2007 levels, I mean people that fatiqued to log in. Unimpressive.

Well I suppose that it's possible that 14000+ players logged in during the 45 whole minutes between our posts Roll

Look I've been playing from my present time zone since mid 2008 and it just seemed more lively back then. Or maybe it was the space dinosaurs.

There are plenty of other ways to troll in this game. Sov should be about taking and controlling territory, not weaponizing banality.

Are you saying that if I am in an alliance, but I have no intention of completing the capture process, then I should not be allowed to knock a station into freeport? How will that rule be enforced?

Being in an alliance does not equal the intent to do anything.

late night US TZ it does get pretty dead, although looking at eve-offline.net it looks like 15k is about the lowest it goes (at least on the 3m graph). From what I can see if it goes below that it is because of downtime.

Being in an alliance does not equal the intent to do anything.

The restriction is on starting a sovereignty capture event as starting a capture event is an Alliance action.

Corps not part of an alliance have no way to capture sov, so rightly so have no need to start a capture event that by definition they can't achieve anyway.

Kaarous's comment was just in line with that. If a Corp wants to start capture events, then join an Alliance. If you're in an Alliance, then troll all you like. We can't really expect the game to know your intent, only whether the mechanics even apply to you or not.

Their idea is that why can't a strong corp initiate the capture if they can do it. There are larger and stronger corporations than some alliances are. They wanna know why is the alliance a requirement.

And the answer to it is the reduced "sov trolling" that the alliance requirement brings. If you are strong enough to take and hold a sov, you should be able to create a simple alliance for your corp.

This is good rule, especially that any one can create corp and alliance , so i don't see any problem.

I suppose the idea is that if you want a freeport, then you must be able to capture the territory, hold it, then declare that it's a freeport (providing proper rights to everyone) and anyone who messes up with this status and your enforcement of it will be shot.

That said, arbitrary restriction that says you must wear your alliance tabard is all kinds of arbitrary and easily sidestepped with no gameplay involved, so I'm not sure what does it achieves.

The choice for a developer here is "make magic rule" or "engineer or refactor the current solution". The former is easier (and a lot cheaper to do) than the latter. But you're right, magic rules make for terrible gameplay and worse, like our current tax code (15,000 pages and increasing) they make the whole system more complex and difficult to change in the future.

With respect to the OP, unaffiliated corps still have a role helping the alliance hold the field, which you still need to do to capture a system.
