i am new to eve but i have been paying very close attention to the strip miner yields of the three barges.

after today's patch kit appears that the procurer STILL has 150% bonus for one turret, while retriever is down to 25% for two turrets. EDIT: (and the covetor has no bonus now) If i am recalling correctly, i did not write this down or take a screen shot, the retriever used to have 100% bonus for two turrets, and the covetor 50% bonus for three turrets.

was there a stealth nerf? why was the strip miner yield bonus reduced?

i literally JUST dropped all my isk on my first retriever monday and id like someone to confirm my suspicions/thoughts.

You are recalling incorrectly. The Procurer and Retriever hulls have always (at least since the big re-balance years ago) had +150% and +25% strip miner yield Role Bonuses, respectively. These role bonuses mean that, before any bonuses from the Mining Barge skill, all three hulls start off with three effective strip miners.

The Retriever and Procurer have the same +2% yield per level bonus, whereas the Covetor gets +4% per level. This means that the Retriever and Procurer will mine at the same rate all other things being equal, although the Retriever does have one additional low slot so it can potentially fir more Mining Upgrade Units.

So, the progression goes:

Covetor: max yield, little tank, and ore hold.
Retriever: good yield, little tank, and a massive ore hold.
Procurer: good yield, massive tank and an okay ore hold.

I hope this helps. For what it's worth, when I do mine (which is rare) I exclusively fly Procurers. One laser is much easier to manage and they are far less vulnerable to suicide gankers.

The first iteration of the current barges/exhumers was a little different - the Procurer hulls had a 200% "role" bonus and the Retreiver 50% - this was the first tiericide, it meant that all of the barges had an effective 3 strip miners and therefore eliminated the pressure to always Covetor (or Hulk) - instead you could choose the tank, yield and moderate ore bay of the Procuror, the moderate tank, yield and huge ore bay of the Retreiver... or if you were really wedded to the old ships you could stick with the paper-thin Covetor and anchor a can to hold your crystals.
This was the case for a reasonable time, certainly long enough for people to adapt and I believe it was a full expansion cycle (and the old 2 expansion/year model was still in use I believe). At that point CCP noticed that everyone was flying the Retreiver (or complaining that their solo Hulk was no longer the best mining ship); some because of the huge ore bay and the ability therefore to AFK (though I used to recommend it because of the balance between tank and yield) and at that point they reduced the Reteiver's yield from 3 strips to 2.5. I believe that the Procuror retained 3 equivalent strips for a little longer but I'm not certain.

The current state of barges has been the status quo for a considerable time however. It is definitely not a new development in the Aegis upgrade.
