I have a few questions about FW I wonder if someone could help out.

1. Do I have to join a corp to do FW or can I “sign up” my toon somehow/where?

2. I hear a lot about plex and that is how ISK is made, can someone point me to a good resource on how they work and what kind of isk can I expect to make?

3. If I join a militia is my sec status automatically trashed or is it just the combat that trashes it.

Thanks in Advance.

1. Nope, you can join the NPC corp by signing up in station.

2. Depends on the Tier you are in and how busy the space is. This is a bit dated, but is ok for the most part: http://www.gamerchick.net/2013/01/the-beginners-guide-to-faction-war.html

1. The state pro corp yes. Otherwise other player corps/alliances in FW also works

Each of the four factions has an NPC corp version of FW. Though while in there, don't expect a warm welcome by militia. The NPC corps are simply known for enemy militia spies, awoxers, and farmers. If you can manage to get into a proper FW corp, you'll be better off if you want to do FW instead of farm it.

The plex is a capture mechanic based on a timer. Orbit a button for x minutes and get LP.
And amount of LP gained, and then also the market status of items you trade in the LP for to sell for isk varies greatly. Farmers stay on top of things like that. But loyal FW'ers stick with their faction through thick and thin, never dropping to go switch sides.

The combat is what will hit your security status. Because neutrals come into the plexes as well for fights and you need to strike first. But it's manageable if you know how to keep a balance in security status.
