Sov holders naming systems

So, I started roaming in sov space recently, and noticed that, for as long as people have been living in it, the systems still only have callsign names (XXX-YY). Why not let the alliance who has thier name on the system set the name?

For everyone's sanity, it's probably worth displaying the name as "[sov set name] - XXX-YY" so people can't confuse folks by changing the name often, but it would let sov null feel more like home, and less like we're just floating in empty space.

We give systems nicknames anyway, why not let us canonicalise them?

I believe this will lead to systems with names such as "Yourmum", "Epeen", "Catpoop" and quite a few of other unmentionable ones that happen with internet anonymity. Not very in-line with Eve canon and a pain to moderate.

This post was rated "C" for capsuleer.

No, just no. I do not need systems with this kind of name.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Yeah, jst look at station names to get an overview over potential system names. I don't want to jump into *Ned Stark dies in ep. 10*.

While that is an issue, the real one is how you are supposed to find the damn place by research. If the system name change, what will you search to find it? Go on the map every time and figure out which one it is?

A large part of the EVE population could probably not find Jita on the map if it changed name.

At one time there was a station in nullsec named "The Bukkake Palace." If you allowed the residents of null to name systems as well as stations, that will be tame by comparison.

Time to penis is 0.0 seconds.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

Are there enough euphemisms for penis, including non-english ones, to name every single 0.0 system?

I'm sure thousands of eve players working together can pull it off.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

I did mention that, the concept I had was essentially giving every system two names, the original one, and the sov-owner-chosen one, and letting you search on either.

So you can use the old-style name to find places, or the normal one. (Incidentally, this could also give places like Jita an alphanumeric name)

About daft/immature names: That just gives you another reason to take the system off them.

Hey! I know that place... (I met my first and second wives there)
