Since their surfacing, the Drifters have proven impossible to scan due to their advanced shielding technology preventing long-range scans. On 5/7/117, an Arek'Jaalan team operating as the Trireme group was sent out on an expedition to survey a Drifter battleship using a new method.

The group was composed out of a Tornado-class Battlecruiser, Exequoror, Nestor and Navitas logistics ships, a Vigilant cruiser Monitor and a Daredevil frigate. Assisting them was the Legion strategic cruiser of Uriel and the Stratios-class cruiser I.S.V. Hippaforalkus flown by Frenjo Borkstar, carrying a compliment of marines led by Thal Vadam, a DUST Mercenary.

Research station codenamed Enif, located in [ ], was also on standby to provide electronic support via a network subsystem installed on the Monitor. Operative Trii Seo was onboard the Enif to assist in systems survey.

A Drifter patrol was spotted in Kerepa and eventually intercepted in the first asteroid belt of planet four. The Tornado, under command of pilot darkzero, managed to take out the overshielding and evade weapons fire safely – drawing the Drifter away and causing the main weapon to be discharged against a bait target. With the main weapon safely out of commission, the structure of the battleship was damaged with weapons fire, down to approximately 50% integrity.

The Drifter patrol was then lured back into the asteroid belt where the Trireme group set up an ambush. The damaged battleship, flown by an Artemis-type was engaged by the Monitor and the Daredevil and pinned down with heavy stasis webifiers. Pilot darkzero used a Crusader interceptor to lure the other battleship away, isolating the target.

Due to the high inertia of Drifter battleships, it was able to evade capture several times before the webifiers could take full hold. Ultimately, it was intercepted and successfully held down – allowing for the insertion of boarding parties through the weakened structure. The Monitor handed over network control to the Enif station which attempted to interface while the second Drifter.

The necessity of holding the Drifter close and the risk of it warping away forced the Monitor to warp scramble the ship. Upon the scrambler taking hold, both hostile battleships opened fire. The logistics wing managed to hold the Vigilant in armor damage long enough for a link to be established. Since the firepower was overwhelming and the second battleship was closing in at high speed, the Monitor was forced to withdraw.

With the plating severely damaged, the marines managed to work their way into the ship, reporting heavy resistance from automated internal systems.

The Enif reported high logical separation of internal systems inhibiting their progress. The system was also actively defending itself and attempting to disconnect the intruders. Data regarding several systems was extracted before the station attempted to gain access to the router separating them from key systems such as main databanks.

Upon gaining control of the router, the ship began to report multiple system failures before experiencing what we presume to be a catastrophic reactor failure. Thal Vadam extracted safely from the Drifter by the use of a Drop Uplink moments before the explosion. Unable to evacuate by the same method, the remaining marines were killed in the blast.

Following the sudden link disruption, all contact was lost with the Enif station. The Stratios was overwhelmed with a sudden data-flood, sustaining severe subsystem damage, including the loss of two out of three datacores and the adaptive synchronisation suite after initiating a link with the dying battleship.

Casualties reported:
Tornado-class battlecruiser, destroyed by the second Drifter.
Daredevil-class frigate, destroyed by the second Drifter after the departure of the Monitor.

Repairs of the Stratios were estimated at a price of:
150,000,000 ISK

Total approximated cost of the operation:
300,000,000 ISK (150,000,000 ISK + repairs)

The data and equipment were safely extracted from Empire regions. Following standard safety procedures, the Monitor was immediately decommissioned, the hull sold and the crew disposed of.

With negligible losses and large potential gain, the operation was a major success.

As of writing this report, contact with the Enif tower was not regained.

A significant amount of knowledge was gained, and i'm just glad that everybody came together in the spirit of cooperation.
Without you guys this wouldn't have been made possible.

This is probably the first time this has ever been done?

Thanks to everyone that attended and assisted.

Just four of you.. putting yourselves in such danger to get vital information for the cluster. Is it by any coincidence that we have a Gallente, a Minmatar, an Amarr, and a Caldari on this mission?

We wonder, what stuff are you made of?

The symbolism of this journey, with an ethnic member of each of the four states.. we should feel some shame for squabbling amongst ourselves.

Excellent work. The biological-like nature of the ship is certainly intriguing. One could say that the Drifters are working on fusing man and machine.

The day after we release this report.
Drifters are now exhibiting capabilities of Stasis Webbing, Energy Neutralization and Warp Scrambling.

This is a problem.

Mostly regular blood, guts and chrome, with a fine mixture of caffeine, nicotine and ethanol in my case.

We never really thought of it in this way. It was just another job that needed to be done, so we came up with a plan and did it. And let's not forget, that aside from us four there were other people - Taqai, Rob, and two more - one of them flew the Navitas and the other the Daredevil.

Battling an unknown enemy is much easier when they are known. A horror ceases to be a horror when it is named and a face can be put on it.

On a personal level, I am disappointed that we could not look into the network that connects Tyrannos units long enough to see if there indeed is something greater there. A lot of work still needs to be done if we are to slap a grotesque mask on our spooky visitors.

In other news, Enif installation is back and rockin' full metal. Temporary NIC blackout due to improper error handling caused the facility to drop communication. Recordings and logs will be reviewed in hope of finding clues, but said hope is not high.

As a followup to this project, I have begun forming the Drifter Research Assembly in the hopes that we may better understand what the Drifters want, and why they want it.

You can find the details here.

Thanks all!

Initial reviews have started to confirm our fears that the data mirror may not be salvageable.

We are currently attempting to understand the structure of the file system. Hopefully, a more in-depth understanding of how their systems are built could shed some light on their origin.

Should an analysis be worthy of publishing, we will likely do so under another Arek'Jaalan project.

The Trireme also raised some concerns in actions that followed nearly immediately. We have observed a change in Drifter behavior, and it remains unknown whether it's a simple escalation or a response to our use of webifiers to perform this operation. None the less, we will need to proceed with caution.

A fools errand.

Anyone who knows anything about cybernetics knows that fusing woman and machine gets much better results.

Ms. Seo, I'm given to understand that data acquisition from the mirror has reached the point located here. It was recommended to use a chimera-class carrier due to bandwidth required for such an operation.

Has this been accomplished within a C6 class wormhole (or similar)?

If so I will be curious to hear of the results.

Apologies for the naming confusion - a mirror is an exact copy of the data. In this case - partial copy of the databank. We cannot release precisely what equipment is being used, given that such details are, for now, classified.

Ahh, my apologies for my own misunderstanding.
Perhaps I should have read the context a little closer than I did.

My own investigations into Arek'Jaalan materials and research so far have done little more than confirm existing findings, so reviews of new material always intrigue me. Hopefully my future studies will better position me to provide more useful contributions to the Arek'Jaalan project.

The mirror is, on its own, an interesting case. Hopefully we will return to it one day.

Regarding the obfuscation of details - it is merely there for operational security. If recovered, the data will be presented to the public.

The A'J group is a group of Scientists. We are far more interested in knowledge than factional disputes.

Additionally, the Drifters are a threat to everyone.

Is there any pattern in how do these Drifter ships interact to ships with drone bandwidth over those with none?

At this time, no further discoveries have been made; however, what we learned from this project will doubtlessly aid us in understanding what these Battleships and weapons are designed to do. The unidentified compounds found within the Battleship may be key to understanding their immense capabilities. Any further insight and discoveries will be announced via the IGS once said information can be confirmed and archived.
