Hello,

You introduced French in the game, ok that's cool, but then, why can't I name my corporation without making a mistake if the name contains an accent ?

Since accents (and even cyrillic alphabet) are correctly displayed in chat I don't see any reason to disable the use of accents in corps / alliances names.

Suggestions for aurum purchasable items to add to the New Eden Store store really should be in F&I.

edit: Also, what about the potential problem of people using accented chars to create "copies" of existing corp names? Say for use in scamming?

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Why are you talking about aurum purchasable items ?

About copies of corp names, that's the same than with contract names, don't be dumb and double check who you are talking to.

If they allow accents, Germans will demand diareses. After those are implemented, we Russians will demand Cyrillic names, because WTF not? And you don't want that, do you?

You're right. And it will a brutal pain in the ass for the rest of the world to search for French corp names since we don't have those marks on our keyboards by default.

Its probably because the database tables dont properly support them, the chat isn't stored in a database so it really doesn't matter what it contains, but unless you were going to modify the entire database to properly and fully support UTF-8 i wouldn't expect to see this happen

And when Cyrillic is allowed we'd end up with СОDЕ as well as CODE

Yes I do. Because as you said, WTF not ?

When you're willing to write your own language in a correct way, it's a pain to be forced to write a mistake just because a letter doesn't exist in the game. Better, just because the devs don't allow you to use it.

When you find a name that perfectly suits your corp and it contains an accent, you have to option :

  1. Write it with a mistake and look like someone who can't even spell a basic word in his own language, very nice for a CEO ;
  2. Change the name to something that doesn't suit your corp as good.

Both solutions are equally frustrating.

Typing and then creating a link to a corp name from a standard keyboard would be a rather long and annoying process.

No, thanks to this.

Everything you can't type on a standard english keyboard is unacceptable, because not everyone could type it.

While I sympathize with you, this would just lead to a(nother) nightmare. Just look at WoW. So no.

Because English ??
When French or Russian become the dominant world language, I suppose at that point CCP can take a second look at their character type.

Dear señor Cadelanne

Right, as Webvan said, the lingua franca is English, not french.

Don't be so naïve as my fiancé's doppelgänger is so fond of saying, we speak English and so have no use for accents.

I agree, but then we could make arbitrary rule that those symbols count as being the same for the purpose of same name usage control...

Go on Serenity... it's impossibru to read the corp names! Not to mention the ships!

The tables support unicode (afaik) but like said it will become a pain when suddenly you can go nuts with characters.

Corps/alliances most likely follow the same rules as character names, and that's A-Z, 0-9 so I'd expect CCP to have to make the exception to character names as well if changed.

Hu? They're part of the standard layout. You have to press the key (shift helps) and then the letter-key to create them. Sorry iin case I misunderstood your post.

Time for you to accept that the international language of the internet is English.

This is the reason why Esperanto never took off; who needed a universal language that borrows linguistics from a variety of other languages when we already have one... English.

I'm not saying this to be arrogant. I'm bilingual myself (English and German since you ask).
