Easiest way to jump through next gate in route?

Howdy - I just got back from a 5-year hiatus from Eve and have a pretty noob question. (Tried Googling, but with no success.)

Whenever I set a system as a waypoint, and am out in space, I hover my mouse over the left-most colored square in the sequence (next hop), right-click, and choose the option to jump through the stargate.

The squares are really small, and hop around when undocking. Getting the mouse lined up for a right-click is a little painful. (I have terrible eyesight.) Is there a shortcut assignment available, or an easier way to initiate this command?

When you have a destination set, the next gate you need to go through will, of course, be highlighted in yellow on your overview. Left click on it on your overview, the radial menu will pop up where your cursor is, flick your cursor up to the top box on the radial menu (which is "jump").

Left click it, hold the button down, bringing up the radial menu.
The 12 o-clock option is jump.

Left-click to select the gate. And "D" (for jumping through) or "S" for warping to the gate.

usually when you have a route the next gate (and even station) is the selected item and you can just press jump. Flying around is stupid easy these days.

or add stargates to overview and then yea I'd probably go with the radial menu option as said above, or just click it and then press jump in the selected item box.

This'll work, but it's not anywhere near "easiest".

The next autopilot gate is highlighted in your overview, meaning by default the options for it are at the top of, y'know, the overview.

You don't even have to move the mouse, just keep it hovering over the jump button at overview top and click it every time you get into a new system.

Man, and I thought I was lazy! Blink

EDIT: You're right, but I just like to focus on the overview when I come through a gate - what is there that might be a threat, what celestial I might need to be warping to, etc - while I have gatecloak. It's quite likely your reaction times are faster than mine and your ability to switch areas of focus quicker. Just what I prefer.

There is an odd thing about this that has always confused me. You are absolutely right that the next gate is the selected item and you just have to click the jump button. However, you can NOT simply press the default key - even though the gate is the selected item, you have to click it again on the overview if you want to use a keyboard shortcut to jump.

Anyone know why this is ?

Because that would make far too much sense, no we can't be having that.

Because your overview isn't the selected input window. If you were to click on it (anywhere that doesn't select something new) or on the selected item window, then hit the key, it'd work.

@OP you could also try changing the window scaling options to make everything bigger which might help out in other ways for you (but will also need a fairly big screen resolution to be feasible)

but what would I know, I'm just a salvager

You can also right-click or click-hold on the name of the next system at the top of the auto-route display.

So if you have a route from Dodixie to Hek, your next system is Vylade. This will be displayed with Vylade above the row of coloured squares. You can press-hold on Vylade to bring up the "Jump" command for the stargate (which will first initiate warp if you are at warping range).

If you collapse the auto-route panel, you'll just get the next system name ("Vylade" in the previous example), and press-hold will not work. You'll just have to use right-click > Jump through stargate. Note that Jump is usually the first option on the right-click menu and will typically appear right under the mouse.

I have a special overview for "commuting" which only contains stations and star gates, which I sort by icon (left-most column by default) which puts the yellow icons at the top. Usually the next gate in the auto-route will be selected when you arrive in the new system, but this isn't 100% reliable. The camera will also be pointing towards the "exit" gate if you have camera tracking turned on (again, this isn't 100% reliable as it relies on the next gate being selected).

The auto-route panel on the left will move up and down depending on what system details are in place. You can reduce the amount of movement by collapsing the system details to just the system name (i.e.: no empire/sovereignty, no "nearest object"), and hiding the sovereignty/faction warfare/incursion panels (click the respective icons along the top left of the viewport).

Of course the movement of the auto-route panel is only an issue because you are old and half blind like me, and you certainly aren't doing something silly like writing macros to emit your keypresses & mouse clicks for you automatically. Doing that will get you banned.

It's not the active window, a lot of the Eve UI works in a similar way to MS Windows.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
