Eve won't allow multitasking

At times I like to watch movies or code while I'm ratting, however while the eve client is open it lags my computer terribly. I can multitask while playing other games just fine, except for eve.

I've had a computer with 2.0ghz duo core, 4gb of ram and NO VIDEO CARD (slimline desktop) multitask better than my current setup. Also, I had noticed the computer lag is much worse in stations. Example:Watching a movie with VLC media player while in station is choppy and it's like I'm getting 2fps, however when I undock the playback is perfect.

My specs:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz
Video Card ATI Radeon HD 5450
Memory 6.1 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

Any ideas on what I can do?

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm running eve with "performance" video settings, almost every FPS sucking video effect turned off.
