Nine years for me

2006, nine years ago. That's when I got myself into this mess.

Still looking for a reason to regret it.

Lots of changes? Yes.

Once there was no warp to zero... we warped in 3' of snow. Both ways. I didn't know about bookmarks, so I trained up in MWD and AB to run the gauntlet. I was such a noobling. There were real pirates back then. I remember the one pirate who would sing in local, but nobody wanted to stick around for a duet. Those where good times.

That first time you warp, you feel like you are going so darned fast. You never forget that.

The old scanning system made you really feel like you found something that nobody else could find.

The Imicus looked as bad then as it does now.

I'll stick around for 9 more. Just give me a lawn to chase the kids off of.

The game has grown, as has I. I'm not the same person who started. Luckily we have both gotten better.

Carry on.

12 years for me,

You're right Herzog this game has come far. Maybe the longest running game ever?

I remember working to get 5 million for my first osprey, and then losing it because of a phone call. :)

I'll be here forever, Eve is so cool.

12 here too.

Still dont regret it nor regret giving the biggest pirate and griefing corp, CCP, my RL iskies either.

A lot has changed in the game.

Some of my fondest memories were getting concorded on two separate occasions; the first was a corp mate that I hadnt seen change corps, I shot first like a good Han Solo and concord pwned me the last time I saw my old friend he reminded me of that day and still laughed at me, the second, was in a battle on a station using missiles when they still had splash damage and well the target was right on top of the station, missile damaged station and there went my ship.

But I still log in almost everyday, mostly to sit there and spin as the younger guys try to drag me out to do the same ole **** Ive been doing for so many years. While I yell at them, sit in my command chair and get drunk and remember the good ole days.

I even dream of Eve... this was last nights dream:

Quote:
So... I find a lone carrier by a gate moving through, I cyno in 2 of my alts in chimeras to dispatch the armor tanked carrier. Out go the drones, locked up, he starts engaging one of them RR reps on... oops dont rep the enemy idiot, glad it was only one cycle.

In short carrier dies and I loot the wreck. Crap I gotta log on another alt for a return cyno or get someone else to do it, dont want to hang around here for long with my ass out in the breeze.

And then......... I wake up.
Sad
WTF?!?! Im hot dropping **** in my dreams now?!?! FU EVE!!Lol

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

I remember logging on for the first time in 2004. I was scooped up by a small corp, I think they were mass mailing people they saw in the noob system. They had me mining scordite in an Imicus, the Gallente mining frig at the time. I thought the Vexor looked so cool, but it seemed like an impossible task to save up the massive amount of ISK for it. I decided not to subscribe to this crap game when my 1 week trial was up. P

I think it was about 9yrs ago I did my first trial account. I remember being frustrated over some broken mission and loosing a ton of standings over it. It was after some patch, and confirmed many missions were broken. I eventually came around to getting a regular account, some time after SWG launched the NGE update which was the final straw. Master Bounty Hunter was so much fun, killing off Jedi players which equated to permadeath for them. Teh tears, Oh the glorious tears Big smile
So wish EVE had a serious BH system here, bu wuevah.

ps I still never mined P

I raised both my sons while playing this game.

Those skill queues are a god send. I did however feed the kids in the wee hours so the Mrs got some sleep while juggling the timing for the next skill to setup.

How on Earth did we ever survive without a Skill queue?

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

I think I belong to 12 year group also. I beta tested Eve online back in 2003 and got the game box 4 days after the launch. Thanks to a massive database crash at that time, my employment history got erased a little.

I use an alt nowadays though since Caldari Achura looked so much cuter.

What I miss from Eve is Clear Skies.

I passed the 10 years mark a while ago, it made me look back on what I've achieved and how & why my path is what it is. Old friends who still play this game and still, after all this time, somehow manage to lead a massive alliance and be super active. A lot of "what if" crossed my mind but ultimately I'm happy with my semi dormant play style.

For EVE itself I see some very good long term changes and also some really bad ones, each year we get closer to a game that I personally don't like, where the carebears win. I guess that's part of why I don't fully invest my time into it anymore: I don't trust the long term path CCP is taking, in fact I've been trying to quit this game since 2009. Still being around could very well be proof that I'm wrong, or perhaps just too weak to quit :P

I hit my 10th last month! Holy smokes, has the time flown! I can barely recall what the game was like back in '05. I can recall not knowing what the heck I was supposed to do. I found myself flying aimlessly in the starter ship with no direction or guidance. Back then, one could still find NPC pirates floating around the gates. Sometimes having to kill them off while flying to the gate. Like many other noobs, I was sucked into a mining corp. I spent too much time harvesting minerals. I became so OCD when outfitting a BS to mine in, figuring out what my optimum harvesting rate would be and how long it would take to fill a jetcan. Now, I get satisfaction in running missions and chatting with other pilots.

Fast forward to the current evolution of Eve, I am happy to see it still kicking when so many other MMO's have come and gone. Too many MMO's promise this and that and never delivered to the player's expectations. I am also happy with the progression of this game in terms of graphics, ship addition and evolution, and overall gameplay. I sincerely hope Eve Online can bring us, at least, another decade of good times.

Fly Safe, pilots! o7

That´s some nice stuff here!

First attempt was in 2007. We were a bunch of friends who thought we could "own" EvE. The plan was kinda easy. We mine rocks, build up a wallet, get ourselfs in Battleships and conquer NewEden. It ended up horrible as most of you can imagine.
Everyone except me quit EvE. I took a long break, created a new account and came back.
Never in my over 20years of gaming a game ate so much time, money and commitment and there wont be another one for sure.
The amount of reading/studying I did for this game is close to overcome the amount of time I have spent on my real life studies.

did a trial in early 2006, much confusion, liked the game but was too wrapped up in another game, came back in jan 2007 after a clan mate ITTigerClawIK hassled the shite out of me to return.
this time it stuck,, Big smile

wasn't long before plans began, ideas grew, members in the corp grew, all went great Big smile
i even dragged all of my clan members kicking and screaming into EVE lol
things went great for about a year, we built and mined and sold stuff and killed more NPC's than i can remember.
along comes a merc corp, WTF pwns us we lose almost all members except for 4,, and decided ,, yup,, corny as it might sound,, to HTFU!
we recovered, made mistakes and learned real fast to read for 1 hour for every 4 you play. intel is everything lol.
for all the corp mates who did stupid things and had me in tears laughing, all the guys who gave us a hail mary when it looked like there was no way out, for the guys who hauled like mofo's without a single whine, for those endless hours of bashing pos's and running like scared sheep lmao,, for all you spias!!! ,,, for the wine incident,,,,, oh the wine incident. lmfao.
6 litres of wine,,, ice mining op for alliance towers,, somehow i think my corp mates are trying to take over my corp and kill me, i begin defending my corp, i shoot anyone who's near me, i can see nothing but back stabbing bastards who are trying to kill me ( they're running reps on me i think they are lasers) lol i kick all corps from the alliance, i remove everyones rights on TS, website, forums, everything lol,,, lots of emotion,, RL drama,,,,,,,,,,, lol
i wake the next day to my wife,,, she says,, you better say your sorry to your friends in EVE,,, i say why,,,, then the memory flashes begin,, lol..
to say i was sick would be an understatement lmfao... Lol they forgave me Roll
for all these moments i thank you all from the bottom of my heart Big smile what a trip,,, looking forward to the next 8 years of madness Big smile

5 years for me. +1 for OP

It's nice and refreshing to see some vets here who aren't incessant whiners who've jumped on the "EVE is dying" bandwagon . Big smile

Bittervets to me seem like cranky, smelly old people who spend all day standing beside a sandbox yelling angrily at the kids who are simply trying to play. Maybe they should change their adult diapers once in a while and realize they could have fun in the sandbox to. P

6 yeas for me.

However i tried the game couple of years earlier but got confused and drowned by all those buttons - i had no idea what to do.
Got into a noob HS corp, then joined 4s through RL contacts - well now i am here :)

The earlier you get into a corp in eve the more likely you stick around - at least thats what i think.
