A Google search turns up several reported sightings, and it seems to be indestructible from other accounts of attempted destruction, and it seems to be good for taking pictures of. In 2001 sequel, a 'pod' lowers down close to the surface of the monolith orbiting Jupiter, and the pod is 'taken'. Hmmm, is it worth a death to go zip out there in a capsule and see if it 'takes' me somewhere? I would have to go find it again, as it seems to drift and only be findable while I am on a mission.

If you're thinking the Black Monolith will take your Pod to Polaris where you can board a CCP God-Mode ship for a guided tour and do some Video taped PvP action with a Dev in an extravagant Obstacle Course,, very doubtful but would be nice.


Mainly it's eye candy, breaks up the monotony of seeing the same ole mission site.

I can confirm that this particular monolith is absent most of the time and only shows up during a lvl4 mining mission, for me - who knows about anybody else. Since it seems to be a stable phenomenon I assume that I will have time to skill up on scanners and other investigatory skills so that one day I can make a through examination of the artifact to determine if there is indeed more to be done with it than to just take pictures of it.

This monolith is in 0.8 space, where I am mining lvl4 missions, so I am reluctant to disclose its location for fear of getting ganked while running missions. I *AM* A Care Bear after all ....
