Hey peeps!

Im a new player and looking to get into FW, I am currently training the core skills that ive been told to do but would like to get into some FW PvP in a small ship (currently caldari frigs/destroyers).

Could anyone recommend a good first frig to use? Ive been given a destroyer fit but its got alot of modules I cant use for atleast 2 weeks. :(

I would preferably stick with Caldari specific ships for the time being but can train for either guns or missles :)

Thanks in advance <3

If you want to join fleet find out what sort of fleet doctrines your militia uses.

For solo its hard for me to know how to fit ships with less than perfect fitting skills. But I will give you some rough suggestions for caldari:

Rail merlin might be a good fit for starters. Put an overdrive in to help with speed and use a web and scram to keep about 7k from your enemy.

Mids: web scram shield mod and ab

lows: dcu, and mag or overdrive

highs:biggest/best rails you can fit.

rigs: shield rigs

You can do something similar with the kestrel and rockets.

I would recommend going the rocket path. Check out Suitonia's kestrel videos on youtube on the channel EVE is Easy.

I can tell you from very recent experience that if you can't fit the sort of modules that get posted to PvP fits, your best bet for Caldari militia (assuming that, because of the preference for Caldari ships) is to 'train' Join MeatFleet to at least 1, and smother yourself in the safety of numbers.

You will not be able to do anything by yourself until your modules all have that little orange "II" in the top, because I guarantee you everybody coming to pick a fight with you will have them.

Haha! MeatFleet! I like it!

It would be good to play with other pilots :)

I think I will look for a FW corp or some friendlies to hang out with!

I always get so excited when someone references Operation Meatshield and the Meat Fleet. Muh ego is soooo hard right now.

I agree with the idea of flying in numbers as you learn the game.

It is indeed possible to be a pretty solid combatant solo with low SP. The Eve Is Easy youtube channel is amazing and really highlights the importance of smart flying.

Flying with friends can help you learn how to fly smart, and survive the times that you don't fly smart. Plus you can ask them questions so that you don't always have to search the net for the info you need, or they can point you to up-to-date info on the topic you're curious about.

In terms of fits, it really depends what weapon system you prefer and then using tactics that best compliment them.

For example; I prefer Blasters, because I like the see the high DPS rating on my ship. Which means that I need to spend a lot of time making sure my target is securely inside my very tiny optimal range.

A lot depends if you see yourself preferring Brawling, Scram kiting, (around 8km) or Point range kiting (around 20km).

Fortunately Caldari has all 3 ships viable within it's line up.

The Merlin is a high damage 'Blaster Boat' for up close scrapping.

The Kestrel is a great rocket ship, and the 'dual web' 400mm armor plated version is just about the easiest fit to fly solo there is. (Just hit orbit 8000 and disengage if they are winning the dps war.)

Both of those fits use the Trinity of AB, Scram and web('s) to control range.

The Condor however traditionally has no tank whatsoever, and uses a MWD and 24km range 'long point' to hold enemies at range and kill them with light missiles.

All 3 fits are proven fleet or solo fits. Pick one and prioritize the skills needed for it in your queue.

And don't sweat the decision too much. Within 6 months you will have all four of the racial Frigs trained to a usable level.

[Kestrel, Nooby-noob Kestrel]

Damage Control I
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I

1MN Afterburner I
Warp Scrambler I
Stasis Webifier I
Medium Shield Extender I

Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Nova Rocket
Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Nova Rocket
Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Nova Rocket
Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Nova Rocket

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I
Small Core Defense Field Extender I

1 day old character should be able to use it. If you have good enough skills then drop Power Core for a Ballistic Control System, update to T2 mods when you have the skills (keep scram/web meta 3). AB or MWD is your choice, but you need to go compact MWD if you are low on sp (or if you want to use t2 MSE on a t2 fit).

Also it's dirt cheap like something around 2mill (around 6mill if t2) fully fitted while still combat able even with T1 meta 0 fitting.

Someone mentioned Suitonia above.. go to youtube: search 'eve is easy', and suitonia gives a few explanations on low skill frigate fits/mods/rigs/use etc.. really good!
